Well, as an INTP who is pretty darn close to INTJ, I'd say you're probably quite wonderful just as you are!

Seriously, I think there are so many strengths involved in that personality type. And there may be a few challenges or things that will cause pain as well.

Maybe a lot of it has to do with the degree of any given characteristic. I usually come out almost evenly matched on all characteristics but introversion. And I know the degree of my introversion does cause me some problems. Do you know how strongly you are I or N or T or J?

Sorry, coming in late... any free tests out there

Hi Dinah,

>Well, as an INTP who is pretty darn close to INTJ, I'd say you're probably quite wonderful just as you are!

Many thanks! I feel relieved lol I read about the INTP too and thought it has excellent characteristics..

>Do you know how strongly you are I or N or T or J?

Ahh this is the thing, I've taken the test afew times and each time came out as an INTJ (I was testing to see if it would change depending on my mood) Anyway I remember reading the percentage? of the given characteristics ~ I can't quite remember the figgure, but I know some scored around the 50% mark, but then I think I remember one actually scored pretty low. It said something like 2 were moderately expressed - then 2 were slightly expressed (something like that I could be wrong, I think i need to take it again to make sure!)

How does it work though, for example if say you score 1% for one of the types - then you scored 50%, then for example you scored 100%. Is it best to score high, low or inbetweeen? I guess my question is, the higher the pecentage of the characteristic (the more its expressed) is that generally a good thing ~ or is it best to have each one moderately expressed? lol im alittle confused how to make an interpretation of the results... - from memory I think I scored the lowest on extraverted thinking

Kind regards

Nick

Hi Nick!

>Is it best to score high, low or inbetweeen?

well, I dont think it makes it better or worse. But if you were low on them then that just means you are closer to be more balanced with the revese. So if you I is low you are closer to an E then if it were high. It really isnt about best and worst. Its just that higher percents mean you have a stronger tendency towards that trait. This mostly has to do with career personality analysis, well Meyers Briggs does anyway and it seems similar. The idea is to direct you in the path that suits your personality style. (sorry got rambling)

>I guess my question is, the higher the pecentage of the characteristic (the more its expressed) is that generally a good thing ~ or is it best to have each one moderately expressed?

yes, exactly. It depends as to how you want to be I guess. Id like to score diffenetly on mine, because I think maybe Id be more successful with particular things, but I dont think I ever will :-o because in most cases I think we are pretty consistent

>lol im alittle confused how to make an interpretation of the results.

Im not sure if this one gave the list of occupations that best suit the types or not but Ill have a look for soemthing thats more useful at analyzing them.
I guess I would use your score as a very loose guideline.
I hope that made some sense.

But after reading it, I'm really ambivilant about whether each characteristic in INTP fits, although the overall description fits well enough.

I guess that's probably because I'm only really very pronounced in introversion, and the rest were a tossup according to the formal psych testing.

I don't know if I'd say that it's good or bad either way. But I suspect that being really extreme in anything can cause problems in life.

I always score so high on introversion, from any test, that it's amazing my eyes face outwards and not into my insides. And it does cause me problems to find being around people as exhausting as I find it. I'm guessing the other qualities would be the same?

But then maybe having a strong tendency has a good side as well. Perhaps it leads to less ambivilance.

Or as I like to say - a person's strengths are usually the flip side of their weaknesses. So most qualities have both good and bad aspects.

(Why, I often admire my mother's strength of will and determination, and her ability to get things done. Grin.)

well, the test results are incorrect 30% (guessing on that figure) of the time...you really don't strike me as an INTP at all. didn't you score ISTJ last time? that description sounds right to me, but just my thoughts.....amy:)

yeah, i remember you saying how you felt similar to susan...so interesting.:) funny how we gravitate to ppl who are similar for friendships...zeugma and i hit it off from the beginning....and we both are kind of INF/TP's (or INFPs with a very strong T preference, anyway.) strange, lol...(i don't mesh quite as well with more 'purebred' infps, i don't think...but would like to.)

that's really sweet of you to say.:) i've always found it really interesting...would like to be a psychologist/counselor, but i know it would be too depressing to constantly hear all the negativity of ppl's problems...

Because I'm so close on everything else, I can come in at anything starting with an I. The least difference is in P and J. I am more consistent in scoring N over S.

I think INTP describes both me and my son quite well.

"i don't mesh quite as well with more 'purebred' infps, i don't think"

i'd like to edit my above statement...i think that is probably not accurate. i like ppl with emotion...i like emotion in my life...more fun and titillating. although thinkers can speak with emotion, too. or have a certain way about them that inspires emotions. so it's really not a T/F issue. just had to revise that real quick...:)

Ok...sorry to hash this thread back up, but I just got my "Official" MBTI test results back today. I took the actual test for a class at work and we were given our results today. Quite intersting to me. I'm still ISTJ, but more to the extreme than I thought. I know "extreme" is the wrong word...it should be "very clear". hahaha! Anyways...here is my preference clarity index (PCI) results: (each one is out of a possible 30)

I: 30
S: 29
T: 30
J: 29

Whoah!!! :-P

I ended up being the entertainment for the class today. It was quite amusing. I wish I could have taped it! I can't wait to see how day 2 of my class goes. hahaha!

This is the end of the thread.
