The Von Trapps are back!!

Posted by Cass on November 22, 2004, at 1:41:28

I was just telling Jai how I love to watch "The Sound of Music" especially around the holidays. Coincidentally, I turn on the news, and they're interviewing the newest generation of Von Trapp family singers. There are 3 children in the group ranging in ages from 6 to 12. They are Maria Von Trapp's grandchildren and the children of the boy whose character was depicted by "Curt" in the movie.
Call me corny, but I am so excited. They have a website. http://vontrappchildren.com and you can listen to some of their music. I just ordered one of their CDs from Amazon.com called "The Von Trapp Children, Vol. 1" I listened to some of mpegs, and they're very good!

For a while theaters were having sing-along showings of that movie. Doesn't that sound like fun?

I'd love to go to a Sound of Music sing along. I guess I never heard about it when it was going on.

The new Von Trapps are really good. I mistakenly wrote that there are 3 kids in the group. There are really 4.

Health allowing...

Going with a small group from work. One of them has some nun fancy dress outfits!

The awful thing is that I realise I know all the words to all the songs (tho they will be on screen too, I think!) Not the best use of my grey cells!

I know all the words too. lol. I've been singing them, sometimes just in my head, since I was a kid. Just think of it this way, there are WORSE uses for your grey cells too.

They did a tour of NZ a while ago. I liked the sound of music very much, but.... well... I think it would have been a bit too much for me :-)

Very good point- fun should take top priority! I've just been given my nuns fancy dress- I have gone from thinking 'no way' to looking forward to it! There will be 6 of us, so not as alarming..

Today is the big day for the sing-a-long, right? I wish I could join you. Do you like your nun fancy outfit?
If you felt comfortable, it would be great if you could post pictures! Otherwise, I'll just imagine.

I'm afraid I dont have any pics. There were about 50 people dressed up as nuns (about half a dozen of them men)! Others included a group of 3 people in a sheet who were being the mountains(!), some who were puppets, a goatherd etc.

All very jolly- there was about an hour first with a host(dressed as a hostess..) who did some jokes and then told us what to do with the various things in our bags (eg party invitation, picture of maria, small plastic flower to wave during edelweis) and instructions such as cheering every time Maria appeared, and boo-ing any baddies!

More like a party than a film- a fair amount of people chatting (and going out to get drinks). It started at 7.30 and ended at 11.30!

I was SO grateful I was well enough to go- there have been a load of things I havent been able to go to in the last few months, but got away with this one!

There was a TV programme here last night about the films that had the highest attendance in the UK over the years. Sound of Music was 2nd (30 million tickets (in UK that is 30,000,000)! Only beaten by 'Gone with the Wind')

Anyway, yes it was lots of fun- hope there is one around your way sometime.

Thanks for remembering!

Fi
