A weary Floridian

Posted by partlycloudy on September 27, 2004, at 8:49:25

...but in very good shape, else I wouldn't be able to post. These storms have been like some gigantic Roomba, Florida-sized, that bump about from the Atlantic to Gulf of Mexico coasts, before finding the exit to the next state. You can see the resiliency of the residents wearing thin. At least with this last hurricane I was able to shut myself off and slept through most of it. Woke up when the lights went back on, then turned them off and slept again.
No damage to our home, lost power only briefly, unlike, what - 2 million power customers? Our fortune is by chance alone, yet in my head, some damage has been wrought.
Concentration is out the window. Can't follow conversations. Temper is hair-trigger, I am so very tired. No more, please. No more.

It's like being sick and tired of always being sick and tired!

I will picture you in a huge field, filled with colourful flowers and soft green grass. There will be only a hint of a breeze and the air will be filled with the perfume of all the different flowers. The sun will be shining but the soft and spongy clouds will take away the harshness and the heat of the sun. There will be butterflies fluttering from flower to flower. There will be no noise, only the sounds of flowers swishing gently in the breeze. And while I picture you in this field, I will sing a song that brings me so much calm and peace.

I will picture you at peace and then I will send the picture to you.

Lots of love
Sabrina

I wish you peace for at least a few weeks, you've certainly had your share of excitement. I lived through one hurricane in Biloxi, and that was more than enough. You people definitely deserve a break.

Dee.

PC,
And no wonder, with all that Florida has been through. I hope you are able to get some rest, find some peace, and have some dry and sunny days with just a gentle breeze.

BTW, how is therapy going? Still doing EMDR? Can it help with hurricane stress do you think?

(((PC)))...sit, put your feet up, and imagine a foot rub, massage, soft stroking or whatever else feels good, from a handsome spa worker. ;)

I have an EMDR appointment tonight. I don't know if it can help with weather burn-out.
One of the bonuses of the last storm has been how many store signs have been knocked down or shattered. It reduces the visual pollution, and makes you wonder if that's how the "old Florida" looked. I kind of like it.

There's been lots of coverage of the devastation in Florida and the Caribbean on UK TV- it looks dreadful. Just in case it helps to know that the concern about what you have been suffering is international.

I do hope you get some peaceful times now.

Don't forget that if there is ONE destroyed building that's the building they'll put on the news.

If it bleeds, it leads. SkyNews must be having a field day.

...and it seems so strange. So many people without power, businesses stopped in their tracks, roofing companies an elite force, and our utility workers (where would be we without them) working their tails off to get us - relatively unharmed - back to normal.

We truly are blessed.

And even though you're weary, you look for the positive. You are truly special!!

Hi Partlycloudy - I'm glad to know you are okay, I was thinking about you this week, knowing where you live. I work with many people in the W. Palm Beach area and they definitely share your weariness! Again, I'm glad to know you made it through okay!!
