Hair

So I was posting earlier about my adventures with home highlighting kits and henna. I've had the bright red look for a month or so now, and I'm pretty happy with it. However, I have some hair loss from meds, perimenopauase, whatever, I'm not really sure. I used to be quite upset with that, but then I got more accepting, and lately the coloring adventure was making me like my hair again.

Well recently I got some photos developed, and I started obsessing about the hair loss again. My hairline looks different in the pictures, particularly on one side where the temple has receded quite a bit. I'm afraid to get out old pictures and compare, but I know it looks different. Mind you, I don't think anyone would notice this but me. I complain to my T and she says I still have more hair than most people. My hair is pretty thick and wavy. It used to be super-thick, so even with the thinning, it's still pretty thick.

But I spent some mirror time examining my hairline and comparing the good side to the thinner side, and wasn't happy. I decided to cut my bangs differently to try and camoflage the thinner side. So I gathered the bangs, twisted it together, and snipped it right below my nose.

It looks OK, but it got really pouffy. My hair is wavy enough, that the shorter it is, the bigger it gets. It reminds me of an 80s look or something. But it does hide the thin spot. Now instead of a thin spot, there's a big pouf hanging over my eye.

So I started freaking, thinking what have I done, nobody has bangs anymore, except really non-stylish women, or women like Goldie Hawn who are hiding their facelift scars.

I swear, it's tempting to just give myself a buzz cut.

Don't do it. I've been there and once I started cutting I couldn't stop. It's been almost a year and I'm still cutting my hair, even though it looks like sh**. I have to wear hats out all the time now. How about a stylish hat? I say I "have" to wear hats but it's really not a chore, just expensive.

Couldn't do even the bangs thing. My hair's the only part of my physical appearance I feel happy about.

A buzz cut????

YIKES!!!

FYI - I have bangs and I'm not exceptionally un-stylish. ;-) They're really good for those of us with high foreheads. Believe it or not, bangs have a style trend all their own. One year the thick ones will be in. The next year, it's the wispy ones. Basically they never go out of style...

Do'nt cut your own hair sweetypips..I did last night.. hats are too big for my little head..and I look worse in kids hats.
80'S styles - why don't they come back in fashion ..they were gothic gems.
I look like a boy again...very short and uneven..just can't do the back..I cut with my eyes shut-seems to work better.

I'm sure you're still beautiful, hair or no. I have the opposite problem-- hats are too small for my gigantic head.

I won't hack off the hair. Just tired of obsessing about it and worrying about losing it. The bangs will grow out.

I tried to cheer myself up yesterday by wearing it in 2 topknots above my ears with a bunch of little clips. I either looked cute or ridiculous, not sure which.
