Anxious Babe,

I can sympathize with your dismay over figure flaws--all of which look worse in the PMS mirror. Incidentally, all department store dressing rooms are equipt with this mirror. I hate my breasts, my upper arms, my flat butt, and my especially my belly, which was no prize before my daughter was born and is even less of a prize now that she's a year old. But I also know that I wear a size six--through sheer perseverance, eating right, having a weakness for healthy snacks like popcorn and fruit, and from working out with weights three to four times a week, and getting at least 30 minutes of cardio from walking my dogs everyday. I also know that I am five foot six, 130 lbs. which is way over the model ideal. But real women come in all sizes and shapes--go to the pool at the YMCA and see if I'm not right. Look at the other moms, look at the prepubescent girls and look at the grandmas--I've noticed that women are only shaped like swimsuit models during their child-bearing years. I remarked to my husband that we women look sexy only so we can re-populate the race; and then we're the ones who also think beyond just the sex. I also work out at the Y, and sometimes I am the youngest one in the room (at age 39). I see older women who are working out not to look good but to feel good.

Think about what your body can do--it can bring forth new life, it can carry you from point A to point B, it can give you sexual pleasure (God and lexapro willing). The longer you take lex, the better you will feel about yourself, I promise. I used to be so self-conscious about my appearance that I wore long sleeves year-round; I wouldn't put on a swimsuit; I didn't even own a pair of jeans. Now I wear a bikini, not necessarily proudly but I see others who look like I do in one, so I'm okay. My husband and my ten year old nieces have some cellulite; I'm okay. Natural is better--and you can cover a multitude of sins by keeping your head up, smiling, using a little self tanner, and acting as if you have every right to wear that swimsuit.

If it seems like I'm preaching, I'm sorry. I'm trying to convince you and everyone else who feels inadequate--myself included. The media sets a ridiculous standard for us to live up to--and I say look at real women for your inspiration. And join your local YMCA--it's a great support system, a great gym free of model types, and a great family organization.

Love to all,
Edna

Thank you Edna...that is the truth and I was never one to complain or care about my figure - I was always a size 5-7 and very happy with that. I now am a size 10 and really that doesn't or didn't bother me because my husband always says that I am beautiful and so is my body even though I think he is blind half the time.

I think I got a little down in the dumps because of my body type right now and trying to find clothes for the summer - I am 5 4' 136 pds and I have no boobs, a big butt and big thighs - so what do they call it? Pear shaped LOL :) very small frame on top and big on the bottom. I have no waist at all, but my butt is so plump that anything I buy is so big in the waist and it looks ridiculous. I need a size 4 for tops and a size 10 for bottoms.
I am very active but not as active as I should be - I am going to make it my business to take some time out for myself and do some jogging and weights.
The media does set ridiculous standards for women today and I realize that, but thank you so much for your advice - It really makes a difference. My goal is to get down to 120 pounds which was my pre-pregnancy weight, so I am going to set that goal for myself today and if I get there or close then great but if I don't then I will still love myself at 136.

Love to all,
anxious babe

honey we are in the same boat. i am 5'2 and 135 with a j-lo butt too! it is really annoying and i always wear a medium top (i have c cups) and like a 400 bottom! just kidding, but for real, i know exactly how you feel. if you ever need to smile, write me and i will make you laugh about it. i know how you feel. when i buy bathing suits the top is always like a medium and the bottom is a large or extra large! i hate it! but that is us and we should be proud to be healthy and have all the yo-yo's in our life. if you need me, let me know! Hi Mystic,
I think I have to increase my meds too - I have been experiencing my anxious feelings again at night so I have been forced to take the xanax again before bed. I am only taking 5mg of the Lexapro when I was suppose to increase to 10mg after day 7 but when I did I didn't feel right and quickly switched back to the 5mg. I don't remember anything either and that was before the Lexapro, I think the xanax caused that to happen.
Well I hope your feeling better and I will think about increasing towards next week just incase this is only a phase I am going through. I am so scared of the meds.
Take care and be well,
anxious babe

Wow, what a horrible thing for you to have to go through. Do you mind if I ask where you teach? Maybe if teaching is what you love you can go to a smaller or rural district where the problems are less dramatic. If you really feel that teaching is no longer for you what do you want to do? Sorry about your tooth as well. I am facing dental work this summer that will cost me about 1,300. and tons of anxiety. Hope you feel better soon. Summer vacation is coming quick. Hang in there. Hello everyone,

I don't know what it is but the last few nights I have been feeling so anxious and it's making me feel like my lexapro is wearing off. I have been on 5mg for 7 weeks and haven't had to take a xanax before bed since the meds kicked in about 3 weeks later - now the last few nights I have had the same feelings before I started taking the Lexapro. Help! is my medication wearing off? Should I increase to 10mg. I was suppose to do that after the first 7 days but when I did I didn't like it, so I went back to the 5mg.
I have been suffering with stomach pain for a week now and I went to my doctor and they took an ultrasound and determined that I have a cyst on my right ovary, so I don't know if I was feeling anxious because of the discomfort, or just not knowing what was wrong. I just found out this afternoon what it was but deep down in my crazy head I feel like NO it can't only be that...there has to be something more wrong.
Well if I need a xanax tonight I will take one but feel disappointed if the Lexapro is not having the same affect as it has for the last 4 weeks.

Hi Babe, It's Mrs. C. I'm sorry that you are feeling yucky this evening. Sometimes I feel that way around my time of the month. It feels like the lex has stopped working or sometimes I get my old side effects back too. It goes away shortly after my period starts.

I think that you should give yourself a break. You feel anxious because you are in an anxious situation. Anyone would feel that way when they are worried about something medical. But if the doc did an ultrasound and says that it is only a cyst then that is what it is. If you need more reassurance call the doc or get another opinion. I would if I were in your situation. I know how you feel because I am always worried about having some terrible illness. That's why I'm on lex in the first place. I needed to go up to 20 recently and feel so much better. Maybe an increase will help you cope more effectively with these things. Try not to worry and have faith. Mrs. C

Anxious babe...You probably or I should say definately need to increase..they are finding out that the original hype on the 10mgs be the key is definately off...and they are saying now that higher doses like 15-20 are a better theraputic dose...I know that I just went up to 15mgs after struggling and doing the same thing waiting to see if it goes away..but i finally did it and am glad because hopefully I have put the last 5 days behind and am that much closer to getting better..You might want to think about that..But believe me I'm no one to talk about being able to take more meds...but I;m thinking about you and will say a prayer tonight and it doesnt sound like you are abusing the xanax so go ahead and take it at night if you want to..I wish I could bring myself to take it sometimes just sooo phobic..but I know when I do take it I feel better...so whatever gets you to feel better at this point...

Just always remember that someone is always here for you no matter what you need..If you need someone to check in more often then they will I will everyone would if they can so just let us know what you need and try not to fret ok...Take care and keep us posted..luvya Mystic

Thanks Mystic...I am afraid of meds believe or not the only med I am not afraid of is the xanax and the reason being is that I have been on the lowest dose which is 0.25 since I started with panic 16 years ago and have never had to increase. The only time I have had to take a higher dose is when I use to let my panic attacks get so far in depth that I needed the extra to calm me down, but I have learned over the years what I feel like when one is going to occur so I just cut to the chase and take one before it gets out of control- of course that has been 16 years off and on with only taking xanax as needed maybe 20 a year. A prescription use to last me a full year. It has only been the last year that I have been taken one 0.25 mg before bed and only before I go to a restaurant or a function with a lot of people ie concert, etc...but I have never ever abused them and now that I have been off them for 4 weeks since the Lexapro kicked in it just makes me feel like I am regressing to have to take them the past few nights.

I probably have to increase and the only thing that scares me about that is how many times do you have to increase before you can't increase anymore. I am so scared of medication but I am also so sick of anxiety and panic that at this stage of the game I am ready to try anything to live a anxiety free life.

thanks for the prayers, you guys are all in my prayers. We will all get through this together...I am so glad I found you guys - thanks to Lexy. By the way, where has Lexy been? I know she is back from boca.

Luv ya (hugs&Kisses) Good night!
babe

Anxious I couldve written this myself...I know that you are on a very low dose..and I also know that with this med there are a lot of ups and downs to it and you really have to do what you feel there are very few people still on 10mgs and some on 15mgs and some on 20mgs so I dont think you go much higher than that but I think that you are the lowest...Remember I am here for you and can relate totally you can e-mail me if you would like..mystichyd38@aol.com...We can help each other but you should thank god that you have found this place because everyone in here are angels true angels...

Xanax well I would feel bad about retaking something that helps you ....You are lucky that you feel comfortable to take them when you know that you need them because anything that can make life better is a plus but sometimes we are soooo stubborn that we refuse to help ourselves or should I say just cant....

I hope that you have a great day and we are here for you..take care Mystic
