Is it me or what?

Posted by partlycloudy on May 14, 2004, at 15:06:54

...but there seem to be some disturbing threads on the boards lately. Babble is such a great place for me normally (hey I made a joke!!), lots of advice, support, and e-friendship. But lately when I take a look at the posts, I find that they seem hostile to me. And I am one of those non-confrontational types, so maybe these folks are having the time of their lives. But it does disturb me, so much so that I find I'm staying away.

(I'm just saying how I feel.)

how am i missing this? where is it? i want to get involved, but i never seem to find those posts. good grief, spoc, miss archivist, could you point them out to me?

miss sunshine, i think slinky said it best, babble is bipolar. she (and yes, babble is a she. couldn't you tell?) has her ups and downs. perhaps you could just open one of those posts and close it if it disturbs you? personally, i like to read dirt, but that's just me. and i suppose that is why i can never find it, huh? don't let it bother you dear. just try to ignore the posts that you don't like and read the 'good' ones (good being a matter of taste).

but miss sunshine, don't you fret! pretty soon babble will slide into the 'normal' phase and all will be well with the world.

but, if you need a hug here goes ((((miss sunshine))). hope that doesn't come off too strong, i never can tell if i'm being too aggressive with my hugs or if they are appreciated. just in case you didn't like the first one (yes, sometimes i do the old 'pat the back while hugging', annoying everyone) here's a second ((((miss sunshine))))) and i didn't pat on this one or try to look down your blouse, promise :) (well, unless you wanted me to. then i did, but just out of appreciation)

It's like my momma always used to say, "Babble is as Babble does" and "Babble is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. And even if you think that piece there matches with what a caramel is supposed to be, sometimes it's just coconut."

Aphrodite was feeling it too, and I know what you mean. Still, I think Hall & Oates had a song that sums it up:

View what you wanna view what you wanna view what you wanna VIEW what you wanna view
But read what you are, read what you are.

cheers,

I think the problem is that Dr. Bob has been away from the board and things don't get taken care of right away. :(

But what happens is that when there's even a bit of unpleasantness, everyone else seems to get quiet, like they're holding their breath.

This means that not only does the unpleasantness take on undue weight on the board, but it does so partly because it really is the biggest thing going on.

Sometimes when that happens I get absolutely manic. Posting as many cheerful things and as many halfway interesting topics as I can dredge out of my mind to try to tip the balance of the board to the positive. But my mind's a blank at the moment.

Get back here Dr. Bob! We need you!

Thanks, you guys. I just needed to get that off my chest. And Karen_Kay, I would never turn away a hug.
((((KK)))))
I do think I'll be quiet for a bit until things settle down. It's all too sharp and pointy for me right now.

I am sorry for my part in that. I just found this board a week ago. A few things that I read (unfortunately the first few) disturbed me and I just jumped in the debate two feet ahead (an issue I should prob look at) and the tone of a couple of my posts were less than kind. After lurking around more I realize how important it is to feel safe here. I would hate to mess-up a good thing...How imbarassing...first week here and Dr. Bob had to spank my hand. I won't do it again. Hope everyone can feel safe again.

I fear my post wasn't as positive as I might have wished, and for that I apologize.

I wanna hold all your hands....xoxoxo

When I first came to Babble I stepped into a communication that was open friendly and fun. Then the tide turned and I was no longer having fun at all. I was doing a fair amount of crying...
My intro was a roller coaster....I said things I now am sorry about. I was too excited and enthusiastic and went over the top...I paid, paid, paid....
My beginning experience of Psycho Babble was difficult....it has taken me time to learn the language, pace myself, make friends the slow and steady way..I still really like to gush in my appreciation but now I make sure the other person is open to what I'm saying.
But I must say welcome....welcome to this interesting, fun, funny, intelligent and caring group...
This is a very special place.
Dr. Bob and Dinah do the very best job they can. They are sincere and caring people who are dedicated to giving us this wonderful site.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

i'm still amazed...

i just want to say that if this board isn't as supportive as you all are used to (and yes, i've noticed a smidge of hostility here and there), that i can't WAIT for it to be back to "normal" because when i came here, i felt nothing but love and support. (i've said this a million times, and i'll continue to say it.) other boards i've been to, i've felt like such an outsider, or like my feelings weren't valid, or people were trying to judge me... here, it was all different. so i'll stick it out till things are up to the oldbies' par (and then some).

and i'll do my best to help make sure babble continues to be the best. (however i can.)

much love to all of you,
ghost
