Drowning in Stuff

Posted by Tabitha on August 27, 2003, at 12:31:51

Ugh, I've started the total posession cleanout.. and right now it just means there's STUFF strewn everywhere. I did my storage room, mostly, then I started on my books-- my six bookcases full-- now they're piled in the middle of the room, and I'm getting bogged down in sorting. I want to sell them online-- but there's nowhere to store them.

Similar situation with my art/craft supply stock-- it's all over the floor.

Ugh. I can't see the end. The rewarding end where it's all cleaned out and organized and reduced down to the essentials.

It always gets worse before it gets better. We're in the process of doing the back yard (by the way, nice looking landscape men today) and it's a wreck at the moment. I don't know when we'll get the fence up.

But I know it will be worth it eventually. At least I hope so, because one of my dogs refuses to go potty on the leash and holds it till she gets back in.

I know it will be worth it for you too.

Although I have a real love of stuff.

Hey Tabbi,

Think long and hard before you toss your junk. You should consider selling it on eBay. I just cleaned out my garage attic and I made $1200 by selling on eBay and I'm not finished yet.

Wow!! What kind of stuff did you sell? I have an overstuffed garage AND stuff strewn all over the house.

Topographic maps. Thousands and thousands of sheets. Complete sets for 6 states, rolled and alphabetized.

Don't ask. :-)

I made some headway. Got one of those Ikea wall units-- lots of stuff looks tidier now. My hobby/craft stuff and stereo/music/DVD collection fits in it. Or it will when I finish purging.

Ted, I had no idea topographical maps were so valuable. I'm planning to eBay some stuff, and sell books on Amazon (I have hundreds), and then the pieces that are too big to ship will go to the garage sale. Hey, you know anybody who wants a cello? That's the toughest piece-- I'll probably have to find a consignment shop for it. Soon my little boat of life will be shipshape!
