WHY???????????????

Posted by Penny on August 26, 2003, at 13:22:45

WHY does my roommate feel a need to email me AT WORK to tell me she may be moving 'sooner rather than later' and could I find out the early lease termination fee at our apartment complex? She also says to me "or I could continue to pay my half of the rent, no utilities, until the end of the lease."

Could that be any more inappropriate???? I'M AT WORK!!!!

(screaming now...)

Thank goodness I have therapy tonight. I just can't EVEN deal with her right now!!!!!

Okay - thanks for letting me vent.

Because she's insensitive, emotionally immature,
has a bug up her bonnet, and has for at least a couple of months, wants to make you feel bad,
for some unknown reason, but really its going to make you feel better because you are going to be so much better off without her nitpicking control freaky behavior

Is that it?

Just a hunch

p.s
Dr. Bearynice is a very good name for a bear

Gabbi, you are too much! :-)

And you are exactly right. I had an empowering therapy session tonight and have decided that I'm not going to take this anymore. When she starts in on me, I'm going to handle it in a more effective manner. I may still end up in tears, as I usually do, but I'm going to stand up for myself. I can't let this get me down!!!

P.S. I'll tell Dr. Bearynice that you like her name! hee hee...

Take care Gabbi.

Penny, have you ever done dialectical behavior therapy? I'm trying to do it self-help style from the training manual. One of the interpersonal relationship skills (I think) is doing what is effective. I'm still trying to wade through the jargon, but it sounds like that's a good plan you've got.

I haven't done DBT, although my therapist mentioned it to me a while ago. I've seen you mention that you were doing it on your own. What kind of manual are you using?

I'm using Marsha Linehan's "Skills Training Manual for Treating Borderline Personality Disorder". It comes complete with handouts, a diary card (although I customized mine - and haven't been keeping up with it anyway), and a really good explanation of why I do the things I do, although technically speaking I don't meet borderline criteria.

I can't find a local group so I'm doing it on my own. If anyone else is working in DBT too, I'd love to start a thread on working with it on Psychological Babble.

COULD ?? HA. If she is on the lease, let her figure out the termination fee. Or she could find
someone to take her share. In any case, if it were me I would hold them responsible for half
of the rent and utilities for the term of the lease.
