Hi honey, can I call you that? I guess that's what I want to call people when my heart's breaking for them and my mother hormones kick into overdrive.

I saw your next post and I know you wanted to erase the one I'm replying to. If it makes you feel even a wee bit better, I want to erase half of what I post here! But for the moment, I can't erase what I just read.

I've been starting to look at sleep deprivation as a source of some of my own woes. The last four nights I've taken Ambien and I have slept better than I have in years and I feel more "real" and in the moment, versus distracted and floaty.

I'm wondering if lack of sleep isn't impacting everything else in your life? Just last night, my fifteen year old son was remembering a time when he stayed up all night due to jet lag. His exact words were "I felt like a zombie" and then he shook his head as if to get rid of the cobwebs. He seemed really freaked out by the memory of that night.

I just looked up "sleep deprivation" because it's had such an impact on my own life lately. Look what I found:

"Sleep deprivation is a form of torture, causing both physical and psychological harm. The mere lack of sleep causes fatigue, psychological impairment, hallucinations, memory loss, inability to concentrate, disturbed motor skills, lethargy, depression"

http://we.got.net/~xavier/crsb/PURPOSE.html

Sienna, I think you are very, very tired and feeling really overwhelmed because of that exhaustion. I didn't realize how serious sleep deprivation can be until recently.

Take care of yourself, okay?

Don't worry, Sienna. You didn't post anything you shouldn't have. I can't tell you how many times I've had Babbler's remorse and felt so embarassed about what I posted. But it was always just fine. So don't worry.

I'm sorry your sleep is so troubled. It does make everything seem worse when you're tired. I know I always get more and more upset then.

I often find that I sleep better during the day when I'm having trouble at night. Do you think you might be able to catch up some with a nap?

Your shining spirit comes through to all of us. I'm with the chorus who want to sing you to sleep. You will feel so much better after a little restoration. You can talk to your boyfriend when you're feeling stronger and able to think a little more clearly. In the meanttime take care of yourself, and don't worry about scaring him off. Just get yourself feeling better.

Sienna...

This seems hard on both of you. It is scary to you and new and scary to him. If it is real love this will one of the small stones that the two of you will need to step across over the years.

This is a two way street though, and I think you are the type that knows that. There will be a time when he will feel like you do now. Be there for him if hes stays for you.

Otherwise, somethings wern't ment to be.

Can you two sleep at your house insted of his...might be more comfy for you for a while???

You thought he would HIT you?? Girl, don't you ever ever ever let a man get away with that.
Not once, not ever, for ANY reason.

That said, I will tell you from experience that insomnia will ruin your life. The longer it goes on, the faster you'll deteriorate...your anxiety level will skyrocket and your quality of life will plummet. Don't be a jackass like me and try to wait it out, please please please go see a doctor.

I'll tell you a little about my own waking nightmare. I know I tried every single OTC herb and drug that Walgreens has to sell in my quest for a single night of restful sleep. I swallowed enough Benadryl and Nyquil to make myself sick,
I was so desperate. Now here's the really awful part: the more of this stuff that I swallowed, the less I would sleep. I didn't find out until later that I have a paradoxical (reverse) reaction to some medications, a classic bipolar symptom. So I was actually spending a fortune and
ruining my health with sleep aids that were keeping me awake.

That's why I try to encourage people to get an accurate diagnosis and learn as much about their condition as they possibly can. Those little pamphlets in the waiting room don't tell you jack.
You also have to come clean with the doctor, you have to hold your head up and tell him the truth about the wierd stuff that you've been doing so that he can make an accurate diagnosis. I know it's hard but you have to be honest...try to keep in mind that what you're doing is describing your symptoms to a physician, that's the bottom line.
Would you go to your family doctor and try to hide
a growing tumor? It's suicide.

In the meantime, try to rest. Every once in awhile
I'll run into a magazine article on trouble sleeping and invariably they'll recommend that if you can't get to sleep, get out of bed and go do something for awhile...don't read or watch TV in bed. This is supposed to help condition your subconcious to equate bed with sleep and not other activities. I'm not saying this isn't true,
but if you've been sleeping poorly for a long time DON'T get up in the middle of the night and do housework or attempt to make yourself tired with some other physical activity. Get a bunch of pillows and whatever else you need to make yourself comfortable on the couch. You need to get your heart rate down and relax as much as possible. It's not a substitute for sleep, but at least it will give your poor little body something of a break.

Sleep deprivation is serious business. Get professional advice.

Klonopin is my favorite medicine, it does work wonders sometimes. Be kind to yourself if you're adjusting your medications, and write when you can. I always am happy to see you.

(P.S. Don't worry too much about the Please Be Civil, Sienna. It was the most apologetic one I've ever seen Dr. Bob give.)
