Well, look at that

Posted by whiterabbit on April 22, 2003, at 11:52:43

Just got the results of my blood test. First I have to tell you that I was raised in the South and am partial to gravy and all things deep-fried.

Cholesterol level - 74. And Dr. Happy wants me to give up red wine. Huh.

Congratulations!

Genetics is a happy thing, sometimes. Or rather, every once in a while it's good to win at the genetics lotto.

You're right, dear. On the good side, besides the low cholesterol, I've got good bones and masses of auburn hair. On the bad side - high blood pressure, bipolar disorder and no boobs. I feel there has been a severe maldistribution of boobs
in the world.

Gracie, why would he want you to give it up? It's good for women...our hearts...your cholesterol wows me and I thought mine was low!! Good going, lady!

Ain't it the truth. I was happy enough with them in my golden youth, but now I find they just don't make bras *long* enough. Sigh.

Hot damn! That is such great news!! HIGH cholest runs in my family (mom is over 250 on meds). I'm never under 250.

Now I really envy you, you can eat anything you want!

Red, red wine....

Red wine IS good for you. When they started research they called it the French Paradox, because the French were just so annoyingly healthy despite all the drinking they do. Turns out that red wine is loaded with antioxidants.
If you don't like red wine, I think grape juice is just as good.

Dr. Happy wants me to avoid all alcohol because I do have a history of trouble with it, although I drank in manic cycle and dried out when I was depressed. I did give up drinking everything else, including my beloved Baileys (very, very
reluctantly), but I haven't been able to cut loose the wine and espresso habit. I do try to stick closer to 2 glasses than 2 bottles. Now that's progress.

That just means I'll stroke out from high blood pressure instead of plugged arteries....
