Transactional analysis?

Posted by yellowbird01 on June 11, 2010, at 15:30:36

Hi everyone... long time since I posted here. Can anyone tell me anything about transactional analysis? I'm beginning with a new therapist next week. It's a man whose website says he specializes in transactional analysis and gestalt therapy. My previous therapist was primarily CBT. Anyone know anything about this or what it looks like in therapy? Thanks!

I've seen the phrase come up from time to time, when I search "ego states". In some ways I found the ideas intriguing, while in other ways I decided the structure would not at all suit me.

I'd think with a specialty in transactional analysis and gestalt therapy that your new therapist enjoys imagination and innovation in therapy?

You've moved on from your previous therapist, I take it.

Thanks Dinah. I've googled some, but I havent found any real straight forward answers I'm looking for.

I have moved on from my last therapist, yes... but primarily for financial reasons. I quit my job in April due to some issues I had with the agency I was working for. I dont have a new job yet, and money is tight. My old therapists fee is just too high for me to afford. The only option she had available was to space out sessions and pay for each session in the "inbetween"... so I'd come to each session paid up for the last. I'd really only be able to see her maybe once a month doing that, and once a month just isnt worth it for me. You know? I hate to have to switch.. I'd LOVE to have my old therapist back. But bills come first I guess.
