Please take care of yourself, Dinah. I know this must be a hard time-- for many reasons.

And thanks, muffled, for this thread.

I'm having computer problems again, and Windows will cut me off any second to restart my computer. But I did want to say thank you between restarts.

If I'd have known I'd have to restore my computer to factory condition, I'd have really been depressed when I saw my pdoc.

Dinah I feel for you. I had to do that with my old computer four times, restart to orginial condition, rebuild all my financial programs and finally just broke down and bought a new one.

I can so relate to those issues. I am somewhat good with those problems and might can help if you want to tell me what is going on.

I really would appreciate any advice you could give.

My HP returned from HP for the second system board replacement in two years. I've had nothing but troubles since with booting and then today with my monitor, and HP suggested that I restore to factory condition, which I've done. And darn it, so far no trouble except for having to reload the programs I reloaded all last week.

So my question is...

Is this purely coincidence, or something I somehow did wrong in reloading all my programs? I've had the Lenovo product page on my bookmarks all the time this one was in the shop, but I'd be paying it off a similar machine to this one for years and I'd rather keep this one. I've lost all confidence in this one though.

You said you had to restore to factory condition several times then had to buy a new one. Is that how it tends to go? Because so far I've lost the better part of three weeks to this computer being down and scrabbling to find an interim replacement and now fooling with reloading and now reloading again, and I can't afford to lose that amount of income.

Dinah, I felt I had to respond to you since I offered although I am boiling mad at Dr. Bob.

I restored my pc probably 5 times and bought countless new security software thinking I had a virus. I did not. I am not as technical savvy as my aunt. She could take your computer apart and rebuild it.

But I did finally after years of having my old computer finally decide that it just wasn't going to behave like it did when it was new no matter how many times I erased the hard drive and re-loaded everything.

I went to a Mac which doesn't have nearly the amount of problems a pc does but I realize some people don't want to learn a new system. I don't regret my decision to leave the pc world.

For one thing in the two years I have owned my mac it has never frozen up. It never crashes and has been basically problem free. If it gets slower empty the cache and you are back in business. I also find support more helpful and local. A plus. In any event I wish you luck. You said you restored to factory condition, how about erasing the entire operating system and then restore that from your backup disks. Save all pertinent information on disks first.

just a thought

Hi, Rsk.

How do you empty the cache on a Mac? My Mac seems to be slowing up and I wondered if there was anything I could do.

thanks, Nadezda

You go to the Safari word in the far left side of your screen click on it and empty cache is the 7th option down. Do this periodically and it will help your mac run faster. You can also empty cookies because they will slow your machine down too if your cookie cache get too big. Go to Safari, click preferences there a button that says show cookies and you will have a list of all of them. Then you have the options to delete all or selection those you want to delete using the control button and highlight all you want to delete. If you don't recognize the cookie delete it) It will empty all saved passwords too if you select delete all but that is better than having so many cookies saved. It slows things down.

There are other solutions but try those first.
