Does anyone else shake like a leaf when triggered?

Posted by seldomseen on January 8, 2009, at 19:59:00

Sometimes that's the only way I know if something is really getting to me. I will start to shake, almost violently. Regardless of temperature, I get cold and will just stare.

My speech even slows down.

I wonder if I'm actually having some kind of conscious seizure or something.

Anyway, just wondering, because something has got things really kicked up tonight.

Seldom.

Yes, absolutely. It can go on for hours and the hangover's awful.

I find that Benadryl helps if I don't have Ativan.

----- this is interesting. didn't realize other people feel like this too.

For me it depends on the trigger.... soemtimes I dissociate and react then after the reaction I then start to shake and get oh so cold. but other times I just get shaky and cold without the dissociation and/or reaction.

Sorry you are in that mode tonight. :o(
I hope things calm quickly for you, it's a rough place to be in.

Yes, I shake when I know the subject is about to come up, and all through thinking/talking about it.. even when I'm in a therapy session and we've moved onto something else, I shiver through the rest of the session, on the entire drive home, and it usually takes me an hour or so to completely come down. You are definitely not alone in this. I think it is a very natural response. Probably part of your body's fight or flight reflex on some level. At least I think that's part of it for me.

Take care,
ML

I hope you're feeling better tonight.

I don't shake. I shudder at times, and hiccup.

But I know what you mean about an emotional seizure.

Yes and so cold, my speech slows down and I start to repeat my words like a kid who's crying and trying to say why they're upset, I have thought I was having a seizure before, now I know it's an "emotional" seizure. Well, at least I know I have company.

I don't tend to shake, but it hits me in my weakest spot physically - my irritable bowel syndrome. I tend to get spells of running to the bathroom, or my rosacea acts up due to enormous stress and my face gets bright red and blotchy and starts itching like mad..... not a nice feeling.

Sorry about the shaking. My friend has a condition where she shakes a lot with stress and even can't write legibly, so I know it is quite a miserable feeling.

To all.

Thanks for your posts, I had a computer crash (blue screen of death) several days ago and was unable to post.

My shaking can go on for hours and it is so bad that writing something would be out of the question, although sometimes I can manage to type.

I do feel better, as the crisis (whatever it was) appears to have passed.

On one hand, I wish these reactions would occur more close to real time with the triggering event. At least that way I could identify the cause, but they don't. It's like my body/mind waits until I'm "safe" and then begins this massive reaction.

On that day of my last shaking episode, nothing out of the ordinary occurred. Just work, and for once, I was ahead of a deadline so I was feeling pretty good about it. In fact, the whole shebang came together quite nicely, and yet there I was, sitting in my house, in the middle of an emotional seizure (I like that phrase).

Oh well, thanks again for all of your posts and for sharing your experiences with me.

Seldom
