Colored a picture for Dr. Clueless

Posted by Poet on May 7, 2008, at 13:50:50

It was Lucy from Peanuts at her psychiatrist stand. Clueless seemed flattered (probably that I actually did something she suggested) and asked if she could keep it. I said, of course, for some reason I thought of you when I colored it. She liked my color choices. I wonder if she put it on her refrigerator? I can see her husband asking "what's that?" "Oh, that, just something one of the crazies did."

She also is pushing me to do meditation. She thinks that my shingles outbreak (on health board) is stress induced. I told her I am not good at clearing my head of obtrusive thoughts, but I have a cd that I will try listening to. I'd rather color.

Hahahahaha :) I forgot about Lucy's practice.

I think you should keep coloring, too. People with no stress issues always think meditation is a good idea. They don't realize that us anxious people can make it into another stressor.

When meditation was recommended to me, I resisted. After 6 months, I got transcendental meditation training and it's good. If done right, it's actually easy and natural. You can't fail. It may be worth thinking about. Widget

How cute! ;-)

Poet,

Give meditation a try, but remember there are different kinds, so if one doesn't work, try another. It is sort of a muscle, you have to work it up to get stronger. Reminds me of yoga, how it is so hard at first, but then your body just craves the movement. Meditation isn't always easy, but it is something that you can get better at with time.
Can I have the next picture?

Hi Raisinb,

I haven't listened to the meditation CD yet, then again I haven't colored either. Maybe I can listen to the CD while coloring? My choice of colors could be really interesting. I just can't see myself being able to stay mentally quiet for long, but Clueless was right about coloring, then again I do call her Clueless.

Hi Muffled,

This is the only kind of art therapy that wouldn't frustrate and anger me. I can't draw a straight line with a ruler. I can definitely see myself throwing misshapen ceramic pots at the wall. Coloring is my speed.

I hope Dr. Clueless doesn't expect more art work as the coloring book only had one of Lucy and her psychiatrist stand.

Hi Widget,

I am trying to convince myself to listen to the CD tomorrow. My husband meditates every day and I think part of my resistance is that just because it works for him doesn't mean it'll work for me. Plain stubborness. The CD is guided imagery, so at least it's a start.

I'm glad the TM is working for you, I hope one form or another of meditation works for me.

Hi Happyflower,

Would you like Peanuts or the Flintstones? I can try to scan it in and email it to you.

You're right about different kinds of meditation, the CD I have is guided imagery so I'm starting there. I can't see myself repeating a mantra or something over and over as I will change it to failure, failure, failure. Darn that CD of negativity that runs through my head.

I have tried to draw and it is hopeless. It only makes me feel worse.
I have not tried the coloring books yet. Maybe I will. I like my yoga tape but I hate the girl doing the tape, her perky smile just gets to me. Actually it isn't perky it is just weird.

I have started a dance workout to go back to my dancing roots. I love it but alas with anything motivation is my weakest strong point at the moment. That and my house is under siege. We are doing remodelling work, at least my house is the one that ordered the work, I would have put it off indefinitely as I hate all those workers around. ugh. strange men who make a mess I have to clean up.

I might try to color.

There was a time a few years ago I started meditation, stuck with it, and it really was amazing once I persisted to the point where it worked.

Unfortunately, I've been trying lately, and it goes something like this: "I have to meditate. Okay, I will block out this time. I am listening to the CD. Wait, I'm not doing this right. Oh no, feeling sad. What can I do about that? I am supposed to be relaxing. Now I'm scared this won't work and nothing fixes me. Now what do I do about this anxiety? Crap, I am not listening and I missed four breath counts. I am not good at this."

I have to say, I like your pdoc Lucy better :) I wish you could scan it in and post it!
