too self destructive

Posted by Maxime on March 23, 2008, at 12:22:24

Since January, I have been trying to find the right therapist. No easy task to say the least.

I was trying out two, and both told me the same thing:"You are too self destructive for me to treat you".

Crushed. I know I shouldn't take it personnally, but I can't help it. Am that much of a lost cause?

Feel like giving up. I have been told the same thing in the past, so this is not new for me. Just bloody painful.

I get the feeling that no one gives a sh*t about me on PB. Nice. I am pretty sure I know the reason. XXX!

I find your posts interesting. I suppose I don't usually respond because I don't know what advice to give though.

Hi Maxime,

I care about you, I was at Easter hell brunch with my family and I suspect others may be doing the holiday thing which is why babble is slow right now.

Maybe when you interview your next T, you say upfront I have been told that I am too self destructive to treat. I don't believe I am beyond help, I want help, are you the the kind of therapist who can work with someone who may not always be easy to work with?

My T told me that I am not easy to work with with and that in the beginning she wasn't sure she would be able to. She's stuck it out for over five years. I try her patience, I still have trust issues, but as she got to know me she realized why I have major trust issues and fear dependence.

I don't think you should give up. You want help and you deserve a therapist who can work with you and accept you for who you are.

Maxime, I am sorry you feel that way. I am sorry you have had therapist tell you that too. That would really hurt. I would probably have a hard time going back to any other therapist, so I applaud you for doing so. I think Poet has an excellent suggestion to be open and up front. It will help I think maybe making another therapist think twice about telling you the same thing, and maybe open the door for them to think that you really want help no matter how difficult you may present to them initially.

For your sake, do keep trying. And please don't think there is anyone out there trying to keep people from responding. I for one, have had my computer tied up by other family members who for some reason prefer to use my computer versus their own !?! Now of course mine is nicer....LOL

I do hope that you can find someone willing to help you.

You know that isn't true. I have a lot going on in my life right now and post on a very limited basis.

Please don't post anything which could lead others to feel accused, put down, or which advocates death to any individual. I know that you're hurting right now, and I hope that you know that I care about you and how you feel. I also have to enforce the civility guidelines fairly and impartially, which means that sometimes I have to ask you to follow the rules, too. I know you'll understand.

I must be very dense, but I didn't see what it was that Maxime said that could cause another poster to feel hurt or put down.

I think Racer went and XXXX'd it out in her post, but I'm not sure.

I do care, I've just been too self-absorbed in my own self-pity to support people much. I see absolutely no reason to dislike you.

Thank everyone. Sorry I whined. I guess I am feeling like a reject since two Ts have told me that they can't work with me.

The "die bitch" in my first post was directed at myself. Just having a pity party.

Sorry.
