Log 4

Posted by Angela2 on March 5, 2008, at 16:20:33

My T cancelled today. I felt really upset about it earlier today because I was looking forward to is so much.

I know what I'm supposed to do to get over being scared, but I don't do it. And I don't know why. Maybe I'm scared of the change, definietly scared of the pain. Today I went to drive but didn't get very far. I just need to practice practice practice. I know I can do it. Maybe it won't come overnight.

Yesterday I didn't go to dance class. My mom yelled at me and told me I was ridiculous and how disappointed she was that I didn't go.

Maybe I should stop doing these logs. I'm not getting to where I need to be. Maybe I'll do some, but less frequesntly, I don't know.

Keep doing your logs, even if you're not able to go through with some of the goals that you have set for yourself. Perhaps you are setting some of those goals too high for right now? I know that I can't make my baby steps small enough sometimes.

Didn't you get out in in your car yesterday? That's something big, and even if it wasn't for a long trip, it's something you can repeat. By keeping my goals achievable, I'm more likely to stick with them. It seems every time I set my sights too high, I also set myself up for disappointment - which does my self esteem no good at all.

Hi angela,
I'm awake finally!

I just wanted to tell you that sometimes progress is fast and sometimes progress is slow. There's no need to beat yourself up over it. Even babysteps lead somewhere. look at an ant. tiny legs, but yet they go all over the place!

too bad that you mom came down so hard on you. that's not cool. maybe your next session with T you can discuss some effective ways to communicate with mom?

just a thought. Sorry that your T Xcld. that is really unfortunate.

There is this magical place on psychobabble called Camp Comfort. It's where folks go when their T's are unavailable. I've gone there in a crisis too. It's nice. It's whatever you want it to be. If I had to go today, I'd be staying at a ski-in ski-out chalet with hot chocolate and marshmallows on tap and a hot tub under the crisp mountain air.

You guys, you are so kind and wonderful. Thank you Llurpsie, Clearskies and Phillipa. I guess I just expect more of myself since I've been out of a job for over a year and feel like I should be OK by now.

Llurpsie, so THAT is camp comfort. Thanks for telling me about it, you put a smile on my face. I will have to think of what that means to me.

Today and yesterday were actually pretty good days (even though at the beginning of my day yesterday I was in a terrible mood when I posted here). I drove to the store yesterday and today, and I'm practicing enlargening my world (driving farther than before). I don't think I'm ready to volunteer yet, but I think in a month, maybe less, I will be able to keep commitments to other people. Which will get me out of the house more.

I have 3 goals for next week. I want to work on committing myself to do somethings. And sticking with them.

1. Go to dance class
2. Get a massage (you'd think this would be easy but I do have to drived there)
3. Visit some friends who live about 15 min away

Those goals sound great as they are not continuous. You drive for massage and they relax your muscles so that sounds like a win situation. If driving is the fear and sounds like it is you give yourself a reward at the end of each drive. Sounds very good to me. Love Phillipa
