Hi Philippa,

I would have been at this job for a year in April. I was on unemployment last year at this time and filed for it again yesterday. That's waht is realy hurting me, it's like I'm going backwards, not forwards career wise.

Hi Annierose,

I wasn't the top choice for my last job, the person they hired didn't work out. Though they did hire me and honestly liked me and the work I did, but this still as you said s*cks. It s*ucks bigtime as the one thing I cannot handle is not having a job.

T emailed me and she's back on Monday. Thank God.

Hi Daisy,

I don't know if I can manage baby steps, I feel like crawling is about all I can do right now. My employer promised me he would give me a good reference, but it's still the me employers seem to hate that has to get through the interview. Your encouragement last time was much appreciated and I will call on you again to help me.

I've been working for five years in therapy to find something else to base my self esteem on and I just seem stuck. How did you overcome valuing yourself by career? I just can't seem to and it's been this way for 30 years.

Hi Seldom,

I started therapy five years ago because I couldn't handle career failure and here I am stuck in the old rut again. I wish all of us who tie their self-worth into careers/work could find other things to provide us with self esteem.

Hi CS,

You wrote: I would love for you to be able to really separate the You from the You at a Job. You know that those aren't the same person, but I hear the pain you suffer because it's not what you believe down deep inside.

That made me smile as it sounded just like something my T would say. I hope I can someday separate Me from the Me at the Job. Basing self worth on career has been in me for so long it's like I'm stuck here forever.

You are right that circumstances have conspired against me. This wasn't my fault...repeat...

I will be here alot as babble is a place where I no no one is saying "what did you do?" as one former IRL friend said in 2006 when I was fired.

I will crawl until I can take a baby step and I hope a new door opens.

Thanks for understanding, but I'm sorry it's from experiencing a lay off. I filed for unemployment and what is so sad is that I did it online and all the info. was there from last year. It's like it's February, look who's unemployed again. Sigh. T is back Monday and promised to call.

Hi Raisinb,

There seems to be quite a few posters who base their self worth on work. I wish we all could find something else within us to base it on.

Thanks for reminding me of my good qualities. I know they are in me somewhere, but right now they're buried under a pile of pain.

Poet, as I read all your dear posts back to each of us that responded to you, which was not necessary but it shows why we all love ya you know, I just wanted to say oh Poet, I am sorry very sorry. You are being so hard on yourself and it makes me so very sad. Sad that those stupid people laid you off. If I had a company I would make you president. Not only are there posters that get their self worth from work, but us babblers have a problem with self worth period. I don't work because I can't find a job I think I will like. Read, I don't know what i want to be when I grow up. Plus I don't think I am stable, I mean I hide it well but still. So talk about self worth in the tank.

Good Qualities, have you got to be kidding, Poet you are filled to the max with them. Dont you forget it ok.

This recent LAY OFF not fired, does not mean anything but that. It is an economic downturn for the company not a reflection on you. I am glad your t emailed you. I hope Camp Comfort has a roaring fire that burns your pain away!

Well, if you were someone else right now, would that person be as lovable as you are? It's a valid question, you know. In fact, it might be worthwhile to think about that other person you'd like to be, and ask what qualities that person might have that are different from you. Maybe you'd be able to put some valuable perspective on the whole career matter?

>I might hug you when I finally meet you, but I reserve the right to do an air hug at a proper distance.

And, uh, what would a "proper distance" be, exactly? Six feet? Twenty yards? Would we need binoculars to see one another?

That's teasing. I'm honored that you'd even consider hugging me. Even if you didn't actually do it, I feel complimented that you'd even think about doing so.

Put up a big sign, dear -- "The cats are brilliant judges of humanity, and they like me."

And then please ask one of yours to tell my 'Fraidy Cat that I'm not going to eat him, and that putting on make up does *not* mean that I've been possessed by a cat-eating alien?

I've told you this before, but I'll tell you this again -- maybe if you hear it often enough, it'll get through.

With your humor and your writing ability, I really think you should go into the interview process as fact-finding for a book about interviewing for jobs. If you could walk in knowing that something good would come out of it no matter what, you might feel better, more confident, and you might even show them the Poet I know and love. You could write a one-woman show about the perpetual job-seeker, and pillory all those idiots who didn't see your fundamental fabulosity.

Heck, woman -- you must be fabulous, I made up a new word just for you!

But have you considered I am not sure but are you a writer could you write a book from home and how it feels to be unemployed. Just a thought and am probably totally off target but I took a chance and added it as an idea. And you will get another job. Love Phillipa

Hi Racer,

My fundamental fabulosity is buried in failure right now. I know, as T said it's that failure tape running through my head.

I want to be Katharine Hepburn circa The Philadelphia Story era. She was so smart, strong and beautiful and independent. I so long to be her.

Hi Antigua,

I wish you and I and so many others here could just say out loud I have other things besides work that I am proud of that give me self worth.

T is trying to get me to think of this as a vacation, a break until the right job presents itself. I have a very hard time accepting that. Vacations to me are a week away from work in a tropical place, not in my house or out shoveling snow. Sorry, I'm whining, but I know you understand.
