and not just not caring

In reply to what do people mean when they say 'crazy'?, posted by obsidian on February 8, 2008, at 22:09:11
When I say it, it is usually something positive I am saying about a friend who is a lot of fun who aren't afraid to be themselves and have a good time.
I say mentally ill when I mean someone is mentally ill.
But I am sure it has a different meaning to others and is used differently by others, so it is probably not the best thing to say unless you know the person and how it will be perceived by them.

Happyflower sometimes you say it to another person about a third party if they do or say something strange. I know my husband and I will say that person is crazy or nuts but we're older than you are too. So I feel at different ages maybe the meaning means something else? Who knows. Tired and bedtime. I think they mean "neurotic", "off-balanced" and "a few sandwiches shot of a picnic".
I think it is something we say when we are angry or confused. I don't think it means that we don't care. We are simply caught up in the moment.
Ironically, there are some people who would rather be called crazy than have the word "mental" attached to them.

talk about being self-obsessed, narcissistically preoccupied, disconnected, out of touch, is that why I empathize with the psychotic, the disconnected? because I can go there so easily?

I tell my Therapist that I am feel like I am going crazy..all the time. For me, when I feel this way, my thoughts are unorganized, they are racing all over the place, I feel like I have no control over my thoughts and actions,I start to think that everyone around me is perfect and that I don't stand a chance in the world, I start to think about why I am so "sick" which I am..and that makes me feel even worse. I have been on so many medications that when they dont work, I begin to think that my only solution is Shock Therapy-
Even though all of this occurs, I know deep down that I am not truly "crazy"
But it sure is easy to think that I am.
I believe that having a strong support group helps a mentally ill person..and others....to cope better and feel less "crazy" and right now, I don't have a very strong support group so it is easy for me to get stuck in the world of feeling "crazy" --unfortunatly it happens a lot. It actually happened today and I was able to get out of feeling that way, but it is extremely hard for me to switch my mind and to be able to tell myself that I am really ok.

Amanda,
a mind in chaos is a terrible thing to deal with isn't it? nevermind the chaotic world around us
I'm going to withdraw for a while...I can't remember why I've tried to keep up with all those "sane" people right now
I'm very very tired
be well,
obsidian
