Therapist is wrong

Posted by catmint on October 27, 2007, at 10:53:01

I'm so stubborn, who can help me? Therapist recommends intensive treatment, i.e. rehab. Well, I don't have time for that. I am a functioning bipolar, alcohol dependent, single parent, who just made a huge mistake and did some coke tonight. Don't look down on me, you might, but please I'm not into hard drugs. It was a mistake. I'm manic as all get out. All UK people please reply. Can I get across, that I can't pipe down, and I don't have the inspiration of Gabriel Garcia Lorca? What should I do now?

catmint

I am in the US and off to a wedding, but if you are in that bad of shape, isn't there an ER to go to near-by. No one here is going to look down on you. Just try to get some stability for now, and that may mean going to the emergency room or calling your psychiatrist. Do you have med's for bipolar? You just need to get your grounding for now, and we can talk about therapy, etc later. Please do whatever you need to do to be safe. Have you a neighbor nearby??? I will try to look tonight, but for me (in the midwest) it could be rather late. Also, check the other boards for substance abuse, etc.

Catmint, can you call out of hours doctor? Or if you don't want to do that you might try Saneline , which is for people in difficulty and they would talk to you and can put you in touch with help in your local area. Website is www.sane.org.uk and the number is 0845 767 8000. The line is open until 11.00 p.m.

It's important that you get help. Take care of yourself and please let us know how you are.
