BPD, BPD. SI , SI. DID, DID

Posted by muffled on September 3, 2007, at 10:55:37

These terms are confusing...
BPD Bi polar disorder
BPD Borderline personality disorder
SI Suicidal ideation
SI Self injury
She DID? She disssociative identity disorder?
She DID? She DID?

You're always so cute. And I needed that smile.

It is confusing. I've always heard/seen BPD as Borderline PD. Bipolar, I've seen as either BP or BAD -- Bipolar Affective Disorder, which I think is probably the more correct acronym.

SI? Sorry, for some of us, that's neither Self Injury nor Suicidal Ideation. It's Sports Illustrated!

Nope - in my world, SI is sensory integration.

We once had an acronymn war - the child development folks against the medical (nurses) folks. We did the who could stump who game.

We won with: FLK - funny looking kid - which means we are all worried and don't really know why.

And I do want everyone to know we try really hard to be respectful of all children and families as do our nursing friends. But sometimes the day-to-day paperwork makes us look for short cuts. And we get lazy and casual in our language. Even here on Babble. Who else might know the big T and little t mean something other than Tablespoon or teaspoon. :)

Having been an academic and, even worse, having dated one who was also a hard-core Freudian and, worser still, someone I met online -- she had the temerity to say to me that I should have listed all my disorders in my profile!

Which got me to thinking about how edumacated folks like to stick all sorts of letters at the end of their names. I mean, if I wanted to show off my erudite self, I could say I'm:

finelinebob BSEd MA MA ABD

or, I could show off my disorderly self with something like:

finelinebob ADD OCD MDD GAD (BSD)

I think my disorderly self could be more impressive, don't you?

flb add ...

PS what is with all the TLA's?

Yeah, I missed being here too, with 9/11 arriving I knew I should get in touch in case I needed the support.

But I posted on 2000 how my walk through has a very curvy path, and so I keep coming across places like Babbleland where it's nice to kick off my shoes and relax a bit before going on. Reminds me of James Taylor's song "Walking Man". Anyway, I'll prolly be gone soon, but I'll be back.

Which reminds me, big happy ((((((muffy)))))) to you, just because you're you =^).
