If my therapist was a ring tone...

Posted by DAisym on June 15, 2007, at 1:34:37

I'm in a highly anxious state with all kinds of stressful things happening. So I thought maybe a "fun" thread was what we all need. How about we keep this light -- OK?

If you could pick any ring tone to represent your therapist, what would it be?

My first thought was that I would pick the theme from Friends, "I'll be there for you."

But after giving it a bit more thought, I think I like the Inspector Gadget theme better..."go Gadget go!" -- because Inspector Gadget can figure out all kinds of complicated problems. Like me. :)

Hmmmm ...

I think I'd go with "Suddenly I See" by KT Tunstall. Funny thing is, I'm not sure what about it reminds me of my therapist, but it does.

I'm able to create my own ringtones, and used an answering machine to record "Hi Dinah. This is X." which came off very nicely, although I'd admittedly be embarassed if anyone heard it.

a song he would chose? "you're so vain" ;o)haha or maybe "send in the clowns?" Nah, he'd probably pick something which said i was stornger than i think... but i can't think of anything. "it's a beautiful day" by u2

one i would chose to represent him..which is what i am pretty sure you meant.. hahaha
um.. that's a toughie.
"amazing" by aerosmith
"every little thing is gonna be alright"...think that one is Bob Marlee but not sure

for my old T i was always reminded of him with the song "sometimes you can't make it on your own".
it reminded me that it was ok to ask for help...and to accept it.
not sure about new T...have to think of that one.

Well, I wouldn't give up my personalized hello in my therapist's warm tones for anything.

However, if I had to choose a song to express things, I often listen to "Rock n Roll Lullaby" right before I go into therapy. I have a short playlist of pretherapy songs, and I try to close with that one.

Not only does the sentiment prepare me, but the music uses both left and right ears, and I figure it stimulates both left and right brains.

Ok, I must admit, my T HAS her own ring tone in my phone. It's part of an Alanis Morissette song about therapy called "The Couch."

The part I used is: "Can you imagine I pay him 75 dollars an hour? Sometimes it feels like highway robbery and sometimes it's peanuts; I wish it could last a couple more hours."

I'd pick a Beatles song. Not too sure which one, but that would just fit with how I picture my T to be. He seems sort of like that would be his type of music.

The phone sings Helen Reddy's "Leave Me Alone", just that part of it, over and over.

I thought it would be funny, but it's kind of annoying me.

Well, it would be a long ringtone....

But U2's Bad

Whatever it is, it would involve a kazoo solo... (nm)

It's interesting to read everyone's responses.

Hmm... for my T, I guess it would be "I'll Stand By You" by the Pretenders, "Have a Little Faith in Me" by Mandy Moore, "I Turn to You" by Christina Aguilera, "Everything" by Alanis Morissette, or "Music of My Heart" by NSYNC & Gloria Estefan-- I think the first four are probably pretty self-explanatory, but that last one is because she's already helped me a lot, but I know she can help me a lot more if I let myself open up more to her.

On the lighter side, I'd probably go with "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac, "Hold On" by Wilson Phillips, or "Crash and Burn" by Savage Garden

Did I mention I can't make decisions?

My T would have "You and Me Against the World" by Helen Reddy. Oldie, but goodie!

My T is very into Hawaiian energy work, so it has to be Somewhere over the Rainbow by the late Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. He had such a mellow voice.

Hi!
How interesting to read everyone's responses...

I would like to choose I'll stand by you, that's something I'd love to hear from my T..
but I guess I'd have to choose something by Bach because she loves Bach and has shared that music with me, or probably Somewhere over the rainbow, or Stuck in a moment by U2....or That I would be good, by Alanis Morissette...

mm , hard to think of only one...
(i miss my T)

So I haven't had a chance to hear his calming voice say "Hey Dinah, it's XXXXXX."

But I can't hope to hear it more often, because the fates will send him calling to cancel our appointments or say he's leaving town or something.
