Adding some form of spiritual counselling

Posted by orchid on November 1, 2006, at 14:45:11

Hello Folks,
Haven't been around here regularly for a while.

From my experience, I wanted to share something here.

Adding a good amount of spirituality and some form of counselling or guidance from a spiritualy exalted personality like a pastor or a spiritual guru equivalent is a very valuable addition to therapy.

Reason it works out is many. Most important of all, it is not time bound like a regular therapy. You don't have to stop seeing them at some point, and then wonder if all that happened was just some professional interaction with no real caring. And besides, you can have a lifetime association with spiritual mentors contrary to the Ts with whom we have to be always afraid of having to stop seeing them or if we will become too much for them and they will stop seeing us at some point. Besides, spiritual people usually really care very deeply, and that in itself is very healing (the genuine ones atleast). Therapists care too, but it is extremely limited, and is an extremely artificial relationship which many times creates more problems than it solves. And really genuine spiritual guides have an excellent way of soothing the soul that many therapists lack.

Yes I second that. My last ("good") therapist was both spiritual and a therapist. I got so much from it because it included the spiritual side of things too but not in a religious way. The one I have now is pretty dismal and I've just about had it. I'm going to fire him next session (I have to remind myself, he works for me. Not the other way around. I don't have to keep going if it's not working out.)
