When you're depressed how do you force yourself to go to therapy? Love Phillipa

i don't think doctors really care about that point. as in, to them, if you have been chonically this way, if you can't get there you are just lazy and not depressed.

I dunno. The results sound like, "if you use a sufficient number of evaluating schemes, you can get the results you want". After all, wouldn't the fact they didn't see any difference in two measures of depression plus no difference in remission rate suggest that eithier [1] the therapy didn't help, but the Prozac did; or, [2] neither one did any good.

Right. And the fact that they didn't include the results of those who dropped out of treatment is rather suspicious. I think it's safe to assume the dropouts didn't have good results, maybe they hated the therapist but more likely they couldn't tolerate the Prozac. Cecilia

Sounds like a mixed bag-- as Bassman says, if you use enough inventories, you can find one or two that support your hypothesis-- or some hypothesis-- about whether there's a difference in some way between ADs alone, and the AD/therapy combination.

Interesting question about the dropouts-- seems like neither therapy, nor therapy with AD worked for them-- wonder how you get to ignore them. Guess maybe you could say they're in the "no difference between therapy and therapy with ADs" group. Although maybe they're still taking the ADs-- just getting them elsewhere. (That's the thing about statistics, I guess.)
