When you love other people but don't care what they think about you.

Excellent definition and sounds like it would feel good to feel that way.

Hi Pseudoname,

I guess I'm not well adjusted. I so care about what others think of me. Sigh.

Funny, but

Princeton University's WordNet defines it as "free from psychological disorder"

Well, what do they now, anyway.

Either way, I'm not well-adjusted

Well, by that definition, no one on the planet is completely well adjusted, I would bet.

Except maybe the Dalai Lama and his enlightened buddies.

Although . . . I remember this great buddhist poem from somewhere that talked about working to lose one's attachment to how others see one. The speaker becomes a Tibetan buddhist monk and wears only the flowing yellow robes, in part to learn to not be attached to clothing. And he finds himself feeling proud of the jaunty drape of his robe. :)

Would that come as a surprise to you, peg?

Well, I know it's a joke . . . but, yeah I know some people that I would say are relatively well adjusted. And maybe those *are* the people who are closer to the "love others but don't care what other people thing of me" end of the spectrum. Maybe it's a continuum thing, where few (zero?) people are actually at the ends of the continuum.

I'm trying to decide how that can be. Unless the love is the abstract sort.

Or unless I'm completely the opposite of well adjusted, so much so that I can't even imagine it.

Try this on:

Well adjusted means solving today's problems today. Not tomorrow's problems and not tomorrow. I'm trying hard to live this.

Definitely seems more doable (nm) » Daisym
