Question re:inside kids

Posted by muffled on March 9, 2006, at 11:20:38

I was talking to my inside Kid last night and I suddenly realized that the kid I was talking to was NOT the same as the regular kid. It was creepy. I now realize that this Kids been around before and mebbe its just my regular kid but in a different mood. I will ask eventually but I don't want to right now. The 'other' kid doesn't seem to have much feelings associated with her compared to the other. It was quite shocking when I realized the big difference.
Has anyone else noticed this with their inside kids?
Thanks for any replies.

Sounds as if the second kid has as much right to be there as the first. Are they different ages? What else is different about them? At the moment I have three I try to talk to (but the 8 year-old is curled up in a corner and won’t talk).

I think the three of them were easily identifiable when I first recognised them. But I can imagine there could be others.

And maybe the other one is more in evidence since you’ve been doing therapy. Maybe it’s another part of you who has emerged and needs comfort and affection. Maybe… But what do I know?

I hope you don’t find it too creepy. Perhaps she’s not what you expected, but she’s part of you and maybe (who knows?) she’s part of your usual inside kid too.

I told my therapist last week about talking to my inside kids and he said he thought it was a very sensible idea… I was afraid he wouldn’t understand but in fact he wasn’t at all surprised. That was a very pleasant feeling…

Maybe this other inside kid you’ve been talking to has a different set of needs and desires and hopes and fears. If you’ve been talking to her, I’m sure you’ve helped her to feel more comfortable.

My T is a little resistant bout my Kid(s).
Glad your T is ok w/it.
My T is on holiday. When she comes back I gonna shove Kid in her face so she can't ignore her. HA!
Hows it going?
You can babblemail me if you want.
Take care.
Glad you posting.

I’m sorry to hear that.

Yeah, I was glad too!

Ha ha! Yeah, there’s something to be said for forcing a T to hear you. I suspect the kid really wants your T’s attention. If your T is willing to accept the kid as a part of you who can express some fears and desires that you find difficulty with, maybe she’ll be willing to listen.

Tough. But improving. No cutting this week.

> You can babblemail me if you want.

Might do that… Will try to log into my email (software problems, sigh).

> Take care.

You too.

I'm glad to hear you're muddling through... I was worried that I hadn't heard from you in a while and I'm relieved that it's as much about software as how you feel. (((Tamar)))
