okay, so what if you can see them and hear them?

Posted by fairywings on September 17, 2005, at 19:26:11

okay, reading through old posts, it seems pretty obvious to me that people are hearing their inner children, so i'm feeling okay with the dialogue i hear, which is mostly the older child. it's not external, it's internal dialogue. but can people see, in their mind's eye, these children too? i can see mine very clearly. i was thinking the younger one was 5/6, but now i'm thinking she's 4, the older one is probably 15, she doesn't like me, she's really critical of me.

My T has only referred to one inner child. i've looked and looked, and i can't find any references to more than one inner child anywhere. is there supposed to only be 1? do you tell your T there's more than 1? is that a problem? Why's there more than 1, when he only refers to 1?

I think it's very common to have more than one inner child part in ego state disorders. Each one may have coalesced around a particularly traumatic experience. They are, of course, all "you"- just different parts of you that didn't integrate well as you grew up. I believe I have two, but, as I have come to be more accepting of thinking of myself in this way, I would also be accepting if I found there were even more parts. Getting comfortable- and being comforting- to them is a big part of getting better. Don't be worried!

I can see clearly me at younger ages. I pulled out some pictures too and took them into therapy. I have three very clear ages...12/13, 7 and 9. They have very different needs and voices. And want very different things from "our" therapist. But it took me a long time to let this out in this way. It was so weird for me and I was afraid it would be for my therapist too. I've written about this, he actually is more comfortable with the whole process than I am. So yes, I can see in my minds eye.

The idea is to figure out what that age wants to say and what happened that is being held on to. It is difficult to let them talk but you'll get there. Keep writing things down. It really helps.

my T just told me i needed to get in touch w/my inner child. is that what the ego state is, and inner child? so i just have two ego states/inner children? very confusing. i'm not bothered by it particularly as long as no one else knows, i guess.

Thanks daisy,

this helps a lot, but the older one looks nothing like me at all, she's nothing like me, and she doesn't like me. she's actually pretty hostile to me. it does feel so weird, and scary, but the older one is really good to the younger one.

i'm afraid to tell him, i'm afraid to open up this can of worms. i don't feel comfortable talking about it.

yeah i have that too. they don't look anything like me. and they can be hostile at times.

>the older one is really good to the younger one.

maybe the older one is trying to protect the younger one. if you can be friendly toward the younger one then the older one might be more kindly disposed towards you...

> i'm afraid to tell him, i'm afraid to open up this can of worms. i don't feel comfortable talking about it.

yeah, it can be hard. typically... there are lots of things that one could potentially work on in therapy. maybe in time this will come up as an issue... or maybe it will sort itself out as you work on other stuff.

Thanks cricket and alex

i'm on a diff computer so i'll have to go check my mail

i love the little one she's so sweet and sunny, but right now she's pretty sad. the thing is she loved the exT, but that was not a good situation for me. but the older one liked him too, and has convinced her that i;m just being selfish, which is not the case. i know this all sounds so bizarre, it does to me too. but the really weird thing is that the other night, before our appt. the older one told me that our T was going to figure it out that night! now is that weird or what?

i'll run it by my husband and see how much he thinks i should spill. i have it down in writing, he can read it, and see what he thinks i should keep and what i should delete.

Hi Jazzy,
I wish i knew what to say, is seem like you are going through such a rough time and I wish I could help you. You have been so good to me and such a support for me I almost feel bad that I can't offer you much advice on all of this.
I do care, and I hope you can work out all of this with your new T . You are such a nice person and you deserve the best in life. :)((((((Fairy wings)))))

thanks happy, this doesn't make me sad, it's not on my mind constantly, so it's not a big issue, and i'm hoping he doens't make it into a big issue. i'm aware of it, since reading the book, it had me freaked out a lot. but i feel a LOT better since reading all the posts, esp. the ones from ppl who think that no one is linear, and that everyone has various age states and parts w/in themselves. it makes sense. i don't think i'm DID, i don't fit the criteria. this is merely inside me, it doesn't become my personality or anything.

you have been a good friend, and very supportive, i really appreciate that! ; )

Sometimes only one fragmented self. Not DID. I think that fragmented is grumbling noise inside. vaguely saying something. all= 1 and one is aware of all. I don't know how this relates to an inner child, but I gave it a shot anyway. I realize that this is probably incoherant. Sorry, but I tried. LOL terrics

for me, the younger one doesn't talk, mostly a thumb sucker, blankie holder. the older one talks to me very clearly, conversations. we are all aware of each other. the older one is very good with the younger one, but she's a teen, and isn't very happy with me, doesn't like me.
