Help me...

Posted by woolav on August 31, 2005, at 7:11:12

During a hypomania episode last fall. I did things that we terrible.
Now, something else that I did has been brought up. And after a certain point, I have no memory of it. I know I have blocked it. But is there anyway to jog my memory without going through regression therapy?? This is very important and I am so frustrated that I cant remember that Its killing me. It makes me feel insane and therefore wish I was dead.

I'm not sure that it matters exactly what you did.

The important thing is to know what the perceptions are of any people that may have been hurt by what you did.

It is possible to apologize for things that you don't remember. Let people tell you in their own words what they feel happened- even if you believe it may be an exaggeration. What will truly matter is the relationship between you and those people (that person, maybe). If the relationship is strong, and the other party (ies) understand hypomania, anything may be forgiven.

Knowledge is the key. Even if it means having someone come to your house to explain bipolar disorder to your loved ones in a way they must understand.

Be strong. Advocate for yourself.

Don't put your thoughts on remembering, just do whatever you can to apologize and make your apology understood.

Thinking of you,
Sunny10

Hi-
Sometimes when i don't remember something- or only a part of something - i go back to the place where it happened - school, if you can't then to thinking about the subject- dentistry or horticulture or music or the park, or be with the same people that were there- and my mind can 'get back there and can access the missing 'file'.

Hope it works, if it will make you feel better. If it will make you feel worse- maybe you shouldn't remember- do you think?

Take care,
kerria
