Two dreams about my therapist in two nights.

Posted by Dinah on April 10, 2005, at 10:52:53

I never remember my dreams, if I dream at all. Two dreams in two nights about any one topic is something I haven't experienced in a long time.

As usual, my dream doesn't require a lot of interpretation.

The first night I dreamed he terminated me without warning. And I was trying to figure out if I should carry out my plan (because I was sort of in shock) when I woke up.

The second night I again dreamed he terminated me. He was leaving town to go live on one of those farms in Israel (my therapist is Christian so it's not too likely). But this time I was able to take good enough care of him that he eventually decided to just go on a two-week trip to the farm instead. He agreed (at my request) for me to go see the fill in therapist we had discussed once or twice (but that he's told me I can't have), which was an unspoken acknowledgement that though he wasn't going to abandon me this time, he would soon.

I guess how I took care of him so that he made this choice would be important, but it's awfully fuzzy. You know how dreams are. The words you use to describe them when you first wake up are all you ever really clearly remember. The rest is like trying to grab smoke. I think it had something to do with personal problems at home, and it was his wife who wanted to move there. I ran into them somewhere and was able to talk to him about it, but more than that I don't really recall. Oh, I do remember that even in the dream, I was really careful to maintain good-enough boundaries. As odd as that sounds in the circumstances. I think it meant I made sure there was nothing in our interaction that the licensing board could frown on.

Hi Dinah,

Did you mention that your T is going on a trip soon? Are you wishing you could persuade him not to go?

It's interesting that you remembered two dreams about the same theme, especially if you don't usually remember your dreams. How did you feel when you woke up? Were you anxious or fearful? Was it better the second night, after you persuaded him not to go?

If you don't normally dream about your T, or remember your dreams at all, maybe you should mention these dreams to him. Especially because you mentioned a need to take care of him when, as you know, his feelings aren't your responsiblity. Is the need to take care of him overwhelming you?

I hope you have pleasanter dreams tonight!

Tamar

My dreams are never subtle promptings of the unconscious. They're more heavy clubs of the conscious. Or maybe my subconscious is identical to my conscious.

Sigh.

I can't imagine I'll remember another dream. That would be just too weird.

I haven't taken my Depakote in a week or two. That may be the reason for my remembering my dreams.

Hmmmm... That's another question entirely. My therapist knows I've stopped taking my Depakote in an attempt to squeeze in more working hours, and perhaps stimulate a mild hypomania, and he approves. He also approves of my strategies to increase work that probably aren't good for my health. I think that might annoy me. Shouldn't he take a mildly disapproving stance, even if he's secretly happy?

BTW, it's not working. :( I still max out at 8 hours.

Must be the weekend for weird dreams. I dreamed I was trying to get into a bar (in Reno) and Kangaroos kept chasing me away. There were dogs mixed up with this too...I have no associations to it. I wish mine were more concrete and full of answers. No such luck.

You spoke about your therapist going to live on "one of those farms" in Israel. Are you referring to a kibbutz?

Yes, thank you.

You would think I'd have remembered since that part of the dream came from a very recently watched episode of The Nanny, even if my general fund of world knowledge isn't that strong. But it eluded me.

Hi Dinah. I just wanted to mention that it's not necessary to be Jewish to live on a kibbutz. A close relative of mine, who is Christian, went to live and work on a kibbutz. My relative wanted to experience what it was like to live in that type of environment. He was there for about a year and loved it.

Oh my. Well, fortunately my therapist didn't seem to know that. And I'm certainly not going to tell him.

I have enough things to worry about him abandoning me about.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause you to worry. I just wanted to let you know that it's possible for any Christian OTHER THAN your therapist to live on a kibbutz.

:-) Very sensible rule (nm) » Sarah T.
