had my baby!

Posted by pegasus on April 12, 2005, at 18:28:52

wanted to let you all know that i had my baby on April 2.
6 lbs 12 oz. am typing w/one hand while nursing her,so sorry this is choppy. all went very well, and she is beautiful & healthy. I'm tired & weepy, but loving her lots. Most of the time I'm really happy, but not getting much sleep.

Talked to my T on Friday, who was so supportive, and said we can continue however i want -- by phone, or take a break, slow down, etc. Her specialty is women's life transition stuff, and i think i got a hint of her feeling like she got me through this transition, so now it's time for me to move on. or maybe that's my insecurity. antway, i'm feeling shaky & needy wrt therapy. Maybe I just need to tell her that i really need the stability of regular therapy right now.

anyway, thanks to all for the encouragement during my pregnancy! Now the big adventure of parenthood begins. I'm so glad to have babble. hopefully will be around more now

I'm thrilled for you! I think you do need all the support you can get - so ask, ask, ask.

I'm jealous, nursing at the key board sounds so sweet. Ah, so long ago...

Let us know what you need. Don't you wish they came with instructions or at least a banner on their forehead for awhile that says "I'm hungry" or "I'm lonely" -- life would be so much easier.

I hope you are taking good care of yourself too. Remember, eat, and rest. And drink tons of water. And you own the remote while you are nursing. It is a rule.

:)

You might actually want to keep seeing your therapist now if you can. This is another transition you're not finished, don't feel like you have to back off. You're therapist's probably just trying to be understanding and supportive, it's not easy being a new mom. Not for all of us anyway. I'll bet your baby's beautiful. Does she have any hair?

Congratulations! I'm so excited. » pegasus

Well, you can tell her the transition is not over by a long shot. :)

I never needed my therapist more than in the first few months.

Oooh! I'll bet she's just adorable.

yes, she came out w/ tons of hair! Looks just like her dad. Actually, the only things she seems to have gotten from me are my big feet. I was really hoping to pass on my blue eyes (20/20 still at 40 YO), but oh well. She'll probably be wearing glasses at 5 like her dad. But, oh, she's sooooooo cute!

Tomorrow we take our first trip out of the house -- to the doctor. We'll see what she thinks of the car seat, and the wide world.

Thanks for the support and advice. everyone. I don't know what I'm going to need. At least a place to write out my stuff that I'm afraid to say IRL. Babble is always good for that. Such as, that sometimes I'm just so tired I'd gladly hand her to a stranger for 2 good hours of sleep. Well, maybe not, but I'd think about it. :)

You're all right about my T. I'm going to call her tomorrow. She's been great -- she's not going to abandon me now, just because I got through this ok. I hope.

Congratulations, pegasus! I'm so happy for you, your hubby, and you're lucky little girl!

I'm with Susan and Dinah on this one. Sometimes I still discuss "new" mommyhood feelings, joys, and fears with my T and my son is almost three. It has taken me quite a while to transition into the role of Mommy and I believe I'm a constant work in progress. I'm sure your T understands that you need her support right now.

Take care and keep us posted!

Congratulations!

Well done! I'm sure your baby girl is absolutely beautiful!

I'm sure that if your T is experienced with women she will know that childbirth is only the beginning of the transition to motherhood. Different women want different things after giving birth, so she was probably just trying to let you know that you can set the pace. I didn't want to see my T for a few weeks after having my baby; other women want to see their T more often. You do what feels good for you.

Hugs to baby pegasus, and wishing you lots of sleep!

AWESOME!!
And always remember the best gift your baby has is you as its mommy!!

And ... the hardest transition is the next 18 years!! Hold on to your T, you'll be amazed at all the changes you will go through over the next year or two or three.

Congratulations!!

lol re the remote.

My son and I fell into the rhythm of night owls. We stayed up till all hours of the night watching tv while he lay on my chest and ate on demand. Then slept until ten or eleven.

We even slept that way. A small dog I had many years ago taught me to sleep without moving so well that to this day I have to become semi-awake to shift position. So I felt safe enough sleeping with him on my chest, comforted by the rise and fall of my breathing and sleeping wonderfully.

I realize that solution isn't for everyone, though. We had to buy him a really cool bed to get him to move to his own room when he got a bit older. :)

Wonderful! Enjoy her! (nm)
