have you ever experienced dissociation?

Posted by mmcconathy on January 21, 2005, at 22:31:38

Right now i'm going in for an MRI to make sure for malformities for psychotic symptoms.

A have been plaged with these spells of just numbness, dream like feeling.

When you where driving, have you ever zoned out into sort of like a dream feeling, espeically at night? - I usally stay dazed for a period of time, and it is hard to get out of.

I'm 17 just for info. Alters usally dont happen in adults, so that makes me a little relieved.

In my mind its like im in a tunnel that very long, i feel isolated in my own self.

Do you know any advice for this?

I also do want to hear you's, so speak up.

Matt

Hey Matt.
interesting how you describe this...i guess i didn't thing of this as dissociation, but i get that fuzzynesss-everything goes foggy and tunnel like but eventually closes over/blurry, all sounds become echoy sometimes slow (if i hear them) and i can't move and just stay frozen like that for a while. It's like i know i'm in there and i want to tell them i'm inside and want to talk but can't (it's happpened during sessions a couple times). mine comes on quick and i can't "shake it loose" but doesn't usually last very long-shortest is 30sec bout, longest is probably about an hour. it's a wierd feeling. i wonder if it's the same? did your pdoc or T tell you it's dissociation?
i guess mine was more of a derealization?? i don't know..there's so many dang terms out there.
-anyway, good luck to you.

Yes I have these and I do get them while driving, day or night, doesn't matter. I get more when I am under stress or pressured in any way. I am 47 years old and had the first spell two years ago after an accident.
Because I also developed visual comprehension problems and autonomic dysfunction the dissociation label is a whole lot easier and cheaper to deal with.

I had an abnormal MRI, and have been told it showed insignificant results. I was diagnosed with organic brain injury and have been lied to by several Docs.

My advise to you is request a second copy of the MRI films for your record and the Radiologist's report. Request a neuropsychological test and an EEG.
You can see all your test results, sign a release at the facility after they have been returned if the second copy request didn't make it in time.

You have a good inquisitive nature, speak up @ 17, hat off to you! Good luck.
