Regression to Teenagehood in Therapy?

Posted by alexis6 on September 24, 2004, at 18:54:14

I'm curious if anyone else finds themselves feeling like an adolescent in therapy. Just noticed that I keep talking like a valley girl, giving the silent treatment and squirming in my chair-very me at 13. Maybe it's the authority figure influence?

Absolutely!!! I have been many ages there, including adolescence. It's amazing. It's so interesting to be that age again, and to be able to look at how it feels from the perspective of now.

I got stuck in about age two I think. It's nice and comfy to be two and have the kind acceptance of my T where I never had the kind acceptance of my parents.

I'm there now too. Sometimes I'm amazed at how I hold myself, sit or even feel things so differently. And the questions I want to ask when regressed are so...13ish! It is an amazing and weird thing.

Hi Alexis,

One of my inner children is 14. That part of me seems stuck in adolescence forever and in therapy she definitely makes appearances.

Wow, I am totally in that place as well right now. I feel like I act different, talk different (I mumble alot more now). I put myself somewhere around 10 years old I think. It's hard because I feel more needy and that I need to be taken care off. The adult side of me finds this abhorrent, but I'm trying to deal with it...
