Survived pdoc

Posted by Poet on May 21, 2004, at 15:05:17

I was so nervous I was shaking. I told him upfront that I was terrified and had trust problems and trouble talking. I called my T when I got home and she's proud that I was able to talk to him without handing him a note.

Yesterday, I gave her my written permission to talk to him. Today, he had me sign permission for him to talk to her. He said he was going to call her. I think she'll call me when he does.

He gave me three weeks worth of Effexor which will last until I see him on June 7. He said I can just see him for meds and continue to see my therapist, but he'd like me to do therapy with him, too. I don't know about that one, one therapist is hard enough. He does psychoanalysis and a whole bunch of other therapies. But for now, I need my T. And babble. And him for meds only.

Poet,

I'm glad for you. It sounds like it went well and he is willing to help take care of you. I like that he offered to do it either way, giving you the space you need to choose. Your Therapist sounds wonderful, she is taking really good care of you.

I hope we can continue to help and support to. I'm impressed with your strength and determination. I know it is really hard right now but it will get better.
Hugs!
Daisy

I'm proud of you, too!

Sounds like things are on the right track, and it sounds like the pdoc put you at ease. I think you are right on the money about what you need your different doctors for.

Do things feel more hopeful for you?

Thank you for posting this. I'm dreading my next visit so much -- for what seem pretty good reasons to me -- that hearing this is giving me a little bit of borrowed courage to get through it. Thank you.

See? Not only did you survive, but you provided a role model to someone else in crisis: If you can do it, I can at least try.

I'm really curious about this. Please won't you tell me his reasons. I'd love to be able to work with both my pdoc and therapist, but my therapist is against it.

That seems odd. Have you told your therapist about it? It's very unusual for one mental health provider to want to do therapy when the referring mental health provider is already doing it.

But I think you're right. You obviously have a good supportive relationship with your therapist. Why would you want to change?

Hi Daisy,

I hope my brain gets back to normal (?) soon so I can help you with your homework, and return your kindness.

Hi Aphrodite,

I don't know if pdoc put me at ease, but I didn't run out screaming. My T reminded me that the first session is the hardest, so maybe round two with pdoc won't be too bad, especially if the new meds kick in by then. Though now I'm kind of sorry I gave him permission to call her and vice versa. Hmm, add paranoia to my dx. No, don't.

Hi Terrics,

I can barely handle one. She's put up with my *don't talk about thats* for almost two years. I don't think I have the strength to break in a new one.

Hi vwoolf,

He said that while I can just see him for medication, he thinks seeing him for meds and therapy would allow him to help me more.

I'll let you know what he says when I see him in two weeks and/or when he talks to my therapist. That's a conversation I'd like to listen in on.

Hi Dinah,

My therapist really wasn't the referring provider as I got him through my ex employer's EAP, so that might have something to do with his offer of therapy.

My T didn't think it was odd that he would like to do therapy with me, I'll have to talk more about it with her on Thursday.
