with her husband in tow...

meanwhile... new zealand citizens can't return home because quarantine is too full of US doctors and their families etc.

new zealand won't give application forms to... won't process applications forms from... won't enrol local students with capacity... won't sign off students with capacity who have done the work...

new zealand will fast-track immigration for a forensic pathologist to nz while the US is in the midst of an epidemic.

how corrupt are we?
how corrupt are we, again?
what are we contributing to the world stage, again?
how are we looking after our own people, again?

ffs.

f*ck*ng idiots

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/300053080/coronavirus-us-pathologist-credits-nz-leadership-for-gold-standard-response

It seems that the government is most responsive to popularity.

That is to say that if you have a facebook or twitter account and enough IT skill to fudge your stats so it looks like you 'influence' a small army...

Why then you can do whatever you want. Your path is paved.

You go into the nicest quarantine facilities and are given the nicest food. Since you are taking constant pictures and uploading.

Etc.

New Zealand Citizens have been told their flights are cancelled. To make way for US citizens with ties to places that are currently in the midst of a pandemic.

Corrupt much??

I wonder what she will make of our 'world leading' 'gold standard' facilities...

Apparently Helen Clark got promoted to something within the UN. Covid Response something...

Apparently scientists want the WHO to publically acknowledge that the virus is airborne.

Well, duh. Right from the very very very very very very earliest stages... That's what everyone was saying... That it travels about on sneezes and coughs and laughs and spits and wheezes... Tiny little droplets of water... Through the air.

That's why we are covering our air-holes.

ffs.

ffs.

ffs.

I wonder what Trump will do with the money that the WHO would previously have got...

And I wonder what countries to rise to the occasion and plug the deficit.

Or maybe the UN wants to spend the next however many years saying 'that's not what we meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeean by airborne transmission! no! no! you can't make us saaaaaaaaaay it!'

I don't like it becuase it makes us look bad.

That's what they don't seem to understand.

They given exemptions to people who aren't citizens. They let them buy citizenship for x amount of dollars. They let foreign citizens buy land and so on for x amount of dollars. They let foreigners do whatever they want for money. I wonder how much money money money money money was paid for foreigners to come here and do things like blow up mosques.

And then the people who paid however much to do whatever... Publicise it.

To show just how corrupt the leaders are.

It's like when some lady (I forget who) travelled to some tribe in Paupa New Guniea (I think) and there was some ceremonial meeting house or whatever it was. And she was told by the tribe that only men were allowed in the house for whatever reasons to do with the Gods. And she offered them... I don't remember how much money to let her into the meeting house with film camera so she could film the meeting house for all the women around the world who had TV. And the men agreed.

So the women saw that the men of the tribe were full of sh*t. It wasn't about their reverence for the Gods, at all.

It's like that.

Right before the election... People seem to think that if they praise NZ, praise NZ, praise NZ for being 'world leading'... Well that somehow buys them favors. Because that's how we do.

Even when it has sensibly been pointed out that other remote islands with small populations are in similar positions. Fiji. Tonga. And then nations with co-ordinated responses. Taiwan. Hong Kong.

And then us...

Do we have fit tested masks yet?

I suppose it's an indicator of where things are going to go. We will need a qualified forensic pathologist to identify the bodies, at least. I suppose that's the idea, really. Apparently there are more US people here than usual. Double or something. Film crews got exemptions and so on...

Why did the US let them out?

It's a matter of when.

It seems most of what there is to say has been said. And now what they are saying is... Denying the obvious that was said, already. Making very very big deals of...

How much money is the WHO spending on meetings and conferences and so on and so forth into a supposed independent inquiry about how different countries fared and what things made them fare better or worse? Is that a good use of money? A better use of money than investing in the things that we know work, already?

Oh, but we don't know, yet. We haven't caught on.

Once we get cases in the hospitals, here, once hospital and community transmission takes hold it won't be long before we are swamped.

I still don't think we have fit tested PPE.

And so on.

I see the US doc comes with a proper helmet filtration system. Sensible. I'm sure our hospitals stocked up and didn't spend preparation time squabbling over hand sanitiser rations.

Alex, they're rich.

You don't know where Thiel bought up? Isn't that what share buy backs are meant to do? Allow the rich to divest now that the game is up?

I was speaking to someone who said that 'Succession' made them feel bad for seeing so much inequality. (It made me feel like Sviataslav Richter after playing at Stalin's funeral: 'I went home and had a shower.') The inequality is so little in comparison.

This may be somewhat off topic but I need to share.....

One incident involved a man in a Costco store in Florida who screamed at an elderly woman who asked him to wear a mask. The man yelled: I feel threatened! Back off! Threaten me again! as he stepped toward the woman in a threatening manner. This moment of unhinged rage would be like every other if it were not one other glaring characteristic about the man. He was wearing a t-shirt that read: Running the world since 1776.

They can't be copied by me. Would I wear it? Where to? I should go out more.

How about 'running the world' and after that 'badly'?

Yes! Wasn't that surreal? (A word I'm wearing out.)

Another one: a mask protestor holding a confederate flag, (a confederate battle flag as one I know points out, so it's completely historically inaccurate, but that's a particular, cherished fantasy), while wearing a tee-shirt printed with 'America. Love it or leave it.'

I don't know what to make of Theil and kim.com etc.

If they are boys behaving badly or if they intentionally using the wealth that they have in order to help NZ develop in a way that exposes our corrupt practices and helps us fix up our laws / develop our legal system so that maybe at some point in the future good people might be able to do good business with us.

I mean... Who would have known that NZ citizenship was on sale (and indeed the price of it) if Theil hadn't have chosen to buy it and then to say that that is what he did, publically?

What does he do with the citizenship he brought?

I'm not sure.

He is / has been consulted about various things, I think. I don't know.

He did pay a lot of money for a supposed bolt hole in a supposedly fancy area. But a lot of that could be marketing. It could be a dump on the inside. I don't know. Apparently locals were saying (newspapers) that it seems to them to be empty. Nobody living / staying in it. I don't know what it's about. I wondered how he was supposed to staff it etc. I mean, he couldn't exactly hire a local cleaner and expect them to keep their mouth shut about his private business etc etc. I don't know what to make of it...

kim.com was something to do with extradition.

Because he was wanted (or whatever) for breaking overseas copyright / data sharing laws. I think. They wanted to have a trial or something. But he ran to NZ to escape being held to account to European courts, I think...

I don't remember how much money the courts ordered him to pay for the trials he had, here. Exposing the government doing unlawful searching of his property trying to collect evidence. Exposing the police doing unlawful things in trying to build a case against him...

Eventually I think the case against him succeeded...

But something about him running for parliament...

Again, exposing the dangers of a rich person buying citizenship and using that citizenship for the purposes of, I don't know, buying up all the marketing / advertising and self-promoting such that one is democratically elected dictator.

_________

I mean to say I don't know how much people like Theil and kim.com are fictions. Not quite spies... Plants??

So laws get passed that make it more possible to do business in this part of the world.

So the country doesn't become a repository of all the morally corrupt individuals fleeing accountability / justice overseas.

__________

I don't know what would be done with the property Theil brought if he hadn't have brought it.

__________

Would the NZ public have known that a person (and family) was let into the couuntry during a supposed lockdown if...

If she hadn't told them herself.

Told the media, herself.

___________

But I still don't feel good about it.

What was her intent in telling the media?

What was her intent on the glowing praises she's singing when everybody knows we were lucky becuase of our geographical separation and if the virus gets inside out borders our health system will not be able to cope in a very very very short space of time.

Diplomacy?

She said she didn't like it how hospital workers weren't socially distancing in NY.
Does she think they will socially distance here?
She said people didn't listen to her in NY.
Does she think people will listen to her here?

I don't know.

Stay tuned, I suppose.

_____________

Judith Collins appears to have softened. In a good way.
Collaborating with present Prime Minister on getting rid of a politician who had a habit of sending nude female photos unsolicited to women...
I mean, backing away from the 'crusher' thing...
Backing away from the old, corrupt, national.

I suppose the success of a government, really, is voter turnout.

I don't know.

Pirates, yeah.

That's why people join gangs, here.

The government distributes the money...

Salaries for themselves.
Salaries for Chief Executives of various things.
Contracts out the supply of services to various companies.
Chief Executives of various companies.

Salaries for doctors and nurses and policemen and teachers...

Or not so much.

Salaries for cleaners and farmers and...

Or...

The government distribute the money.

SO robyn hood or the mongrel mob or the pirates get involved and help things along. Shall we say...

There were some Chinese people in yellow with a banner saying 'communism aims to destroy the human race'.

I think the people in yellow are communist / mainland china people.

And the people in blue are independence for the colony people (Hong Kong, Taiwan, Tibet, whatever).

There used to be Falon Gong practitioners...

Then the vanished. They are not there in the civic centre doing their yoga-like exercises, anymore.

Where did they go?

They would hand out pamphlets about how the WHO agreed that Falon Gong practitioners (and other minority group members) were being detained and that the number of organ transplants did not match the number of voluntary donors...

______________

I think China is helping the world develop.

______________

I mean to say: Suppose China presents itself to the world as a bit of monster. China presents as 'we are more powerful than you and we will give you all the things you want and many many more besides. And how we will make these things for you and give them to you so very very very very cheaply is we will not pay workers. We will have them working with toxic chemicals in appalling conditions. We will put the quality products in much plastic that nobody knows how to dispose or or recycle and most particularly not you. Okay? Great? Wanna do business?'

And then China can see who is willing for many atrocities to be committed on the Chinese people / Chinese workers to profit at their expense.

And then China knows...

Whether these are good people, or whether trade sanctions must be imposed to prevent the race to the bottom.

_______________

The 'free' world needed to stand up for 'free to wear a mask if you choose'. Much of the 'free' world actually banned masks. You were not free to choose to wear a mask.

Hospital workers were being told to remove them. Not wear them. We will not supply them. You will not supply your own. You are scaring the public. You are not allowed to wear them.

You are not allowed to compete in many sports if you do not wear the uniform. The uniforms are felt to be degrading to many of the athletes. Many of the male divers do not want to wear speedos in front of the world in order to practice their sport. Many of the female athletes don't want to wear thongs to play beach volleyball etc. They are not free to choose to wear clothing they feel comfortable in.

The 'free' world was required to stand for rule of law for Hong Kong.

The 'free' world is required to care about human rights abuses of the Chinese people (and minority groups within China).
_______________

I wonder, a bit, if it comes from WW2. Germany was held accountable for atrocities against Jewish people (and other groups) and nuremberg trials and laws developed.

But the Japanese atrocities against the Chinese were given a free pass by the US in exchange for data (or similar).

So the Chinese people haven't felt like the world has cared about the lives of Chinese.

Which may make it harder for the Government to care for it's own people too.

I don't know.

You're familiar with Tony Abbott?

After that election win Key and his team came to Australia and spoke with the incoming government. And they came out saying, 'This is not going to work'.

The relative absence of viciousness and spite is notable to me.

Maybe proportional representation system forces politicians to be more honest in argument.

> You're familiar with Tony Abbott?

I think I know you you mean in the sense of being able to pick him out of a line-up. But otherwise, no. I never really followed Australian politics. I never really followed NZ politics, either.

Only I don't actually have a choice, now.

Apparently the Minister of Health can ask the someone to de-register a programme within a University or a University on the grounds that it is in our national interest.

Since Waikato refuses to allow it's research studnets to work to international standards (a necessary feature of a University) I've asked him to ask for de-resigtering of it's research degrees.

Since Otago refuses to allow 20 year old domestic studnets to apply to MBChB (when they are eligible to apply to that programme) I've asked him to ask for the de-resitering of that programme.

Since Auckalnd refuses to regard 20 year old domestic students to be eligible for MBChB I've asked him to ask for de-registering of that programme.

If they can't / won't comply with international standrds and domestic laws then it's time to stop giving them government hand-outs and stop allowing them to charge for degrees they refuse to confer.

TIck tock.

A plague is coming -- didn't they hear??
