Tony Windsor, on of our better MPs said on twitter.....

'Your dog whistling on race, religion and division has born fruit, Scott Morrison, not here but on a softer target. Don't dare apologise on my family's behalf when you have encouraged the problem and fanned the fire. You are a disgrace.'

There will be no talk about muslims or sudanese youth gangs or the deserving and undeserving until the state and federal elections are over.

Same with border guards here. Impunity. Absolute power. Unaccountability.

He's a hero for life.

Around the time of all that gay marriage stuff Tony Abbott was visiting Hobart and this skinhead looking man went up to him as if to shake his hand and then head butted him. It was reported that this was about the gay marriage roadblock Abbott had tried to implement. When asked this bloke said, 'Yeah nah, I don't care about that. I just hate the c*nt'.

People get really pissed off.

But here is Jacinda......

My goodness! What a lovely lovely letter. Thank you. I think many people feel Jacinda modeled healthy leadership. I do.

It's only been a week. I cannot imagine we will ever ban assault weapons here. SO much American identity is tangled with 'the right to bear arms'.

I was listening to one of these things, I forget which, in which it was stated that the right to bear arms did not become a big thing until......when?....after the Civil War, or later maybe.

Jacinda is a hero to the world, and really just for doing what she, and many others, believe to be right, inclusive, sensitive and kind.

She specifically asked Trump to say something about Islam and white nationalism, but how could he? But it isn't Islam. I think it's not liking what you see in the mirror. Saudi Arabia is muslim. All of the countries on the immigration ban had been at some time attacked by the US.

And then Trump is Trump.

Jacinda just has it. Compassion and the strength to hold steady. And a gift for picking her administration, for example, that Winston Peters who spoke with Erdogan. May this create ripples that can reach even the US-- we're in a dark place here.

Yes, it comes naturally to her. Only in a political leader would it be considered extraordinary. Ordinary people are not like that. But half of Australia is in love with her.

Here is Scottie.....

I don't know very much about Australian politics. Liberal confuses me because it's different than liberal here. Are you feeling more optimistic because how people have taken to Jacinda's example?

Well, yes. There is a great hunger for a sensible decent politics here. As there must be with you. I saw AOC asking questions of someone in government. Ilhan (sp?) speaks the truth and it sends everyone sideways.

Really, our societies are just hallucinatory. The story of American benevolence and whatever we are mean to have are so often covers for cynical behaviour no one would ever tolerate in an acquaintance.

The Liberal Party of my youth was somewhat like Eisenhower, I guess. Which is to say like Obama. The ALP....more like McGovern but not quite.

As has been remarked, our politics is a virtual reality TV show. Except it is more vicious.

They treat us like children. 'America ia already great.' What on earth does that mean?

And One Nation is learning from Trump.

We were being swamped by Asians, the aborigines weren't deserving of representation. Now the asians have become OK. (Why?) Now we are being swamped (it's always the swamp word) by Muslims. The come into our hoses with baseball bats, steal all our stuff and rape our women.

This is projection as politics. Just as the Christchurch massacre was a demand that we keep forever and never have to account for that which was stolen. Well, sorry mate, that is history, what can we do about that?

She makes sense. What are her chances of being PM in the future?

She's a senator and the PM has to come from the House of Reps. She could get a seat in the House of course.

I heard her last night on Australian values. What she said was certainly one strand of our history, but ummm, it was easier to be generous with someone else's land and the products of it. I'd vote for her. Women are treated dreadfully by our parliament and Murdoch press and their people. Brings out our sadism; we like to see them crack.

NZ has had better PMs than us for longer than I can remember.
