Americans promote peace in Australia

It's nice to help our friends.

Is Barry Manilow the Answer to Loud Cars?
Reuters

SYDNEY (June 5) - Sick and tired of souped-up cars with loud engines and pulsing music? Barry Manilow may be the answer.

Officials in one Sydney district have decided to pipe the American crooner's music over loudspeakers in an attempt to rid streets and car parks of h**l*g*ns whose anti-social cars and loud music annoy residents and drive customers from businesses.

Following a successful experiment where Bing Crosby music was used to drive teenage loiterers out of an Australian shopping center several years ago, Rockdale councilors believe Manilow is so unc**l it might just work.

Councilor Bill Saravinovski said local authorities plan to install a loudspeaker and pipe in Manilow music, interspersed with classical pieces, over a car park favored by car "h**ns," or h**l*g*ns.

"There are restaurants nearby and people can't park in the car park because they're intimidated by these h**ns," Saravinovski told The Daily Telegraph newspaper Monday.

"D*ggy music is one way to make the h**ns leave an area because they can't stand the music," he said.

It might not work. I feel very energised when I hear 'Mandy'. What about 'I Am Peguses', did he sing that? These songs might send everyone back to a 70's beergarden for a long afternoon's drinking.

I'm not aware that he sang that, and I'm a Fanilow. At least, I used to belong to the BMIFC. However, it's been a while. Perhaps he's sung it lately. I only have all of his albums up to 2am Paradise Cafe, and a few after that.

What the intro to "Could it Be Magic" does for me is anything but cool. ;)

I have been *informed* that the Pegasus song is by Ross Ryan. The intro to Mandy was used in Todd Solondz's wonderful film 'Happiness'(his first film was called 'Fear, Anxiety and Depression'...just the thing to give me a dubious laugh). I'm very fond of Mandy, truly. It's 30 years ago, and then seems better now than it did then.

As I recall, that sort of thing was used successfully, way back when, to drive Noriega, the Panamanian dictator, into exile and custody of the US government.
