Hey there, just wanted to say HI, I'm new here and thanks for sharing. So glad I found this place. Just wanted to thank you all for just being there to listen (read) and be honest with your feelings and what you're taking (or not taking). Much better than lying to a partner or therapist or even friend, knowing they don't FULLY understand....since they've never been where you're at. On Day 9 of Cold Turkey from 4 meds...most stupid thing I've ever done..but I'm over the worst and too late to turn back now....flushed the Effexor, Xanax, Stilnoct (Zolpidem I think...sleeping tab) and Tegretol down the toilet...didn't think about it...was so addicted to the Xanax and Stilnoct...just became so stressed and freaked out and more stressed and didn't want to deal with what I was feeling and got to love the feeling of that wonderful bliss in just sleeping (I battle with Insomnia too...most of my life - I'm 36). My partner was freaked out about the tranqs and sleeping tabs and it's basically for him, and the kids that I'm trying to come clean, although I've always suffered with depression and bipolar disorders for most of my life...so I know that I'll have to deal with that bit later. I see the therapist tomorrow and now have to tell her what I've done....sheer madness. The withdrawals from the Effexor on it's own was sheer hell...never known anything like it and the nightmares were the worst I've ever ever ever had..I even believed in aliens and that's not like me at all...became scared of my own beloved cat. Well...still up....not at my best, body still weak and sore...feel a bit fluish at times, headaches....but trying to get on with it.
Thanks for listening....

Hey Jai and thanks for the encouragement and welcome. Well...Day 10 and I'm worse..shaking, can't concentrate on the slightest thing...went to therapy (haven't seen her for ages) and was TOTALLY honest and she couldn't believe I could even be so daft as to even quit the Effexor on it's own, never mind the other stuff. Basically, she feels that Effexor wasn't doing it's stuff if I wasn't doing well in terms of stress management, sleep, depression and binge-behaviour...so I'm now on Prozac today (hallelujah!!! Finally - someone listening..been trying to get back on it for ages now).
Have a husband and 2 young girls...my sweeties...hubby has been working overseas on and off for 3 years, we have moved country (been here close on 6 years, but still...no suppor network, loneliness..you name it)...he's now home and we're trying to work through it...not used to having someone here now...and then it's Christmas time...huge stress....and I'm having work problems...YOU NAME IT!!!!
How are you doing???

Quite out of desparation and then flushed them down the toilet (so I didn't have any more)...and then I knew my visit to the therapist was 2 weeks away, so I had no bl**dy choice. That and the fact that my husband tells me I went a bit daft the night before, stuffing my face with smarties (candy) - found the smarties in my bed the next day...says I almost fell down the stairs, pose a danger if we had a fire in the house (wouldn't wake up), bla, bla, bla ....worst bit is that after 7 or so years of bottling up my feelings, he now wants to deal with his and mine, and my 'addiction', and it's Christmas and I have job stress....so a great time all in all.
He also suggested I give up coffee (according to advice on the net..saying caffeine is bad when you're withdrawing....geez...my heart would stop). I DO have a glass of wine here and there...helps with the withdrawals, but the small regular quantities of Xanax (3 times a day) the Therapist has put me back on is helping, and no more nightmares and night terrors..I was a walking nightmare when I went through the initial Effexor withdrawals, even scared of my own shadow, rattling and shaking....HORRIBLE.
Huge hugs to you.....don't do what I've done...sure sign I'm crazy!
Thanks for all the advice and listening.
