thinking about closing this board

Posted by Dr. Bob on November 7, 2010, at 21:54:39

Hi, everyone,

Since the level of activity here has been kind of low, I'm thinking about closing this board and moving discussion of health to Psycho-Babble Social.

This board and its archives would stay where they are, but new threads wouldn't be able to be started and follow-ups to existing threads would automatically be redirected to Social.

Let me know what you think,

Bob

Dr Bob I started a link on admin as I was thinking since the people on the meds board also have various health condition ie: thyroid disease, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and lymes is discussed quite a bit on meds that health added to medication to me makes sense? Phillipa

Thanks for replying. What would you see as the problem with mixing Health and Social?

I believe I mentioned that I find it a problem to mix health and boards that have a purpose counter to the usual types of posts on the health board.

I would oppose health and social for that reason. I think health often addresses topics that are upsetting, such as sickness and and so forth. For example, much of health would be devoted to Phillipa's postings about osteoporosis and her warnings about the bisphosphonates. (She has posted about this quite a bit on the meds board and not all her posts have been redirected. ) This is something that she apparently is much concerned about. It is fine with me if she posts these posts, but I personally don't feel that I could visit a board with them, as my mother also takes bisphosphonates. I have done a lot of research and thinking about them and have come to the opposite conclusions as Phillipa. However, I find it upsetting to read frequently about the horrible outcomes and lack of benefits that she believes they have. I do not want to debate this issue and, having come to my conclusions, want to let the matter rest. Moreover I keep up on this issue to my own satisfaction.

I enjoy the social board as something a bit more spontaneous and freewheeling than some of the others. Frequent posts about bisphosphonates --or sickness etc in general-- would make that quite a grim place. Meds seems very important and busy and not a conducive place to introduce off=topic information. So I see the logic of health and social. However, I think the effect would run counter to the mood of the social board.

More understandable to me would be combining health and alternative which at least have similar concerns. I just think however helpful to posting on the health board, one should not combine boards that don't fit together well.

What about lymes disease lots of posts on them and chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia which are also illnesses. And it seems quite a few posters are concerned with adrenal fatigue another illness. We all make choices and one is not to read what I post. Phillipa

Willful I just want to apologize to you as was thinking how worried you must be about your Mom. I feel your're a great Daughter or Son and your Mom is lucky to have you. I will not discuss my medical problems on meds. I will save it for my other site. And thinking about it it makes sense to me to combine alternative and health. As in reviewing those boards myself so many alternative treatments are used for all sorts of medical conditions. Thanks for giving me food for thought. And again sorry if I caused you distress it wasn't my intention.:( Phillipa

the problem woudl be people talking about butterflies, lindsay lohan, paris hilton, and hey how old are you? where do u live? and other dating questions, mixed with social shouldnt exactly be pared with health related conditions/questions.

Thanks for contributing your point of view. Social is "for general discussion and support", which includes topics that could be upsetting, for example, being incapable of love:

Also, there's been some support for closing this board:

So I'm going ahead. Follow-ups should be redirected to:
