regain sense of smell

Posted by meAgain on May 16, 2010, at 18:01:48

I deal with severe allergies and sinusitis..never have my sense of smell nor taste ..which does lead to depression for me due to the fact I have dealt with this for years. I have been given steroids about every six months and it restores my senses 100%..I feel a sense of joy because I can smell the air outside the good aroma of food and taste it too! You don't realize how much we take our senses for granted...but than they slowly go away again. My doctor really doesn't want me taking steroids anymore because they are not very good for the body.ANY OTHER suggestions?

Hey I lost my sense of smell and taste about seven years ago and went to two hospitals taste and smell centers both said I must have had a virus that destroyed the neurons in nose. Tried at the time low dose of steroids but no return for me. Then they said aminophylline. I didn't take it and for seven years wonder what a flower smells like or good food. Chocolate dark I get a bit of satifaction from sucking on and a tiny bit of taste. Any other advise as it's so bad I cry each night at dinner which is a lean cruisine. Can't cook can't taste. And I had such strong smell and taste before. I know I'd be happy again if I could get it back? Phillipa
