Should I be drinking a sports drink?

Posted by Deneb on February 23, 2010, at 21:07:21

I'm going to the Y and I work out a lot. Not only that, but I sweat TONS. I sweat tons even just walking 3 miles/hour. I work out for long periods of time, sometimes with over 3 hours of total exercise time on the cardio machines.

I sweat so much my face and back and arms are literally dripping with sweat. My clothes and even underwear are soaked. I can wring the sweat of out my clothes. My face turns bright red and stays red throughout my workout.

I drink water in-between machines and I am just a freaking eating machine after my workouts. I really need to control that. I want to lose weight, not gain weight!

I think I'm probably getting back my electrolytes through the eating so I assume just drinking water is OK.

Do I need a sports drink?

Omgosh, I just realized I haven't peed today. I think I'm dehydrated.

Oh yeah, I also sweat so much that after it all dries I can scrape salt off my face.

sports drinks are sugar and some minerals. most people not profesional athelets don't need added carbohydrates, and minerals should get from food like produce, legumes, milk.

so, no.

i would suggest eating largest meal of day, and the one with meat if you take it, right after working out.

Thanks for the advice!

I think I need to drink more water then. I think I lose weight after exercise.

My tummy fat gets smaller after exercise, but it re-inflates later during the day. LOL

I think I am a bit of a hypochondriac.
