Their secret.....therapists die.

Posted by BayLeaf on November 16, 2009, at 17:18:47

They don't tell us this. We should know, huh? But they ought to die when they are 95, or later, right? ....so we can prepare ourselves, and say goodbye, etc.

I'm not posting this on psychology because I don't want to scare people. But, they die.

So if you ever said a harsh word to yours, take some time now to talk it out, cuz you never know, k? In marriages we don't go to bed mad, right? In therapy, try not to walk out the door mad. If you do, call and work it out asap. Cuz you never f'ing know.

They are fragile souls with expiration dates.

I had a therapist die but he died after we had terminated therapy. I saw another one a couple of times and when I went back they said she had died. It was creepy the second time. She looked fine when I saw her but she was dying and I think they should have told me rather than schedule new patients with her. I didn't care that much about the first one but was sad some. I called his wife and gave my condolences. I didn't say I was a former client, I was too embarrased. I worked at the same place he did but never, ever saw him. So I said I knew him from work which wasn't true.

I'm so sorry, Bayleaf. Losing a therapist can be like losing a member of a family.

I find the grief board a bit overwhelming so I haven't seen this before now. I think it would be ok to post it on Psychology. I know at least one other person did. It *is* scary, but scary things like termination and death are part of the big picture of therapy. No point in trying to deny that.

You've been with this therapist a long time, haven't you? I really have no words. I'm just so sorry.
