Looking for a good study bible

This one contains the Apocryhia. I have not read them.

Anyone have this version?

Yep. It's the bible I keep in my husband's car to bring to church with me. I've been pretty happy with it. It uses the NRSV translation, which I tend to like. And the comments can be enlightening in giving historical context.

A number of Eugene Peterson's "remix" versions are quite cutting edge. You can get them on Amazon.

Thanks Jay. I don't know these. I haven't purchased the above bible yet. I have been reading Ravi Zacharias and Harold Kushner. Still need it digested for me.....

I did read the Pentateuch years ago, but not the Christian Bible. Nor the Aphocryia.

What does remix mean?

Hey FB...

The Petterson "remix" is actually his work on translating the Bible back *directly* from it's Greek source. Here is a good paragraph that summarizes his work.

"While I was teaching a class on Galatians, I began to realize that the adults in my class weren't feeling the vitality and directness that I sensed as I read and studied the New Testament in its original Greek. Writing straight from the original text, I began to attempt to bring into English the rhythms and idioms of the original language. I knew that the early readers of the New Testament were captured and engaged by these writings and I wanted my congregation to be impacted in the same way. I hoped to bring the New Testament to life for two different types of people: those who hadn't read the Bible because it seemed too distant and irrelevant and those who had read the Bible so much that it had become 'old hat."

I forgot to mention, I think his other Bible version called "The Message.." has the old and new testament. That is the one I think you want.
The "remix" versions where ones that focused on giving teens a much easier read of the new testament. But, they are really good for adults too.

You can find a online copy of "The Message" (along with many other versions of the Bible) at

The Bible that many pastors in many churches are recommending to their congregations is THE LIFE IN THE SPIRIT STUDY BIBLE. If you have a Christian bookstore near you, it should have it or be able to order it for you. If not, I got mine through an online Christian bookstore - we don't have one where I live so I have to buy online. I got mine from Christianbook.com. Best wishes on your search.
