Mr.Took,
You wrote,[...the medications should not be demonized...].
I am unsure as to what you are wanting to mean. If you could post answers to the following, then I could have the opportunity to respond accordingly.
A. what is a demon?
B. What does it mean to {demonize}?
C. If there is a God in relation to what you are wanting to mean here, which God is the one that you are referring to?
D. If that God, if there is one in what you are referring to, does in fact have commandments to those that give service and worship to that God concerning the taking of mind-altering drugs, then could the worshipers of such God be obeying that God's commandments to them? If so, (redacted by respondent)
E. other questions if the above are responded to.
Lou

I don't think that is particularly relevant as

> B. What does it mean to {demonize}?

what I was meaning was "to make to seem as if evil" "What is a demon?" is only relevant in the sense that it is the base of the word I chose.

> C. If there is a God in relation to what you are wanting to mean here, which God is the one that you are referring to?

I believe in God and am a practicing Roman Catholic, but again demonize was just a word choice with no spiritual implications. In this context I am equating evil with bad.

It is an interesting question. My own personal theology is that consumption of *ANY* substance could be disobeying God's commandment if the intent is to defile the temple of our bodies. Thus, drinking the "mind-altering" wine that has been transubstantiated at mass is a GOOD while drinking mind-altering wine in excess can be a BAD.

It will be VERY hard for you to convince me that AD's are in some way a fouling of our relationship with God. In my personal OCD/Anxiety battle taking AD's has helped me to become closer to God.

I find the same to be true of depression.

Heck of a price to pay for enlightenment, though. But I sort of suspect all the great mystics have been depressives or one kind or another.
