How can you tell?

Posted by lynn970 on September 18, 2005, at 20:57:06

The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. The bible says to cast down vain imaginations and it says not to worry. How do you know when the anxiety is a chemical imbalance or it is just the enemy throwing bad thougths at you?

Good question. I'll research that one. (nm) » lynn970

Lynn,
It's a hard question. I've battled with that one ever since I started battling with this "mental (or spiritual" battle myself.

I think it's a tough call (and an individual call). I think there are times this is simply physical (chemical). But there is no doubt that the enemy can and will use the "physical" to destroy us mentally and spiritually if he can.

So for me, what I have concluded is that although I shouldn't overspiritualize every battle I face- I need to remember the reality that I do HAVE AN ENEMY that seeks to destroy me any way he can. So regardless if the battle is physical/mental/spiritual- I have to fight it spiritually to make sure it doesn't interfere with my walk with the Lord.

Does that make sense?? ROFL

You have asked a good question Lynn, and I don't have your answer, because only you are entitled to that. But I do know that God stays especially close when we have anxiety based problems, or chemical imbalance. I have felt babysat by the angels in my difficult moments, like I couldn't get away from God no matter how I tried. I have felt protected and guarded, and there have been people placed in my way to help when I've needed it. Look around. Someone will be there for you too, as long as you keep the faith, and a prayer in your heart. If you turn to God, He won't abandon you.

I rarely post on this board but this question drew me in. These days I come from more of a Buddhist orientation. (BTW, I don't see a conflict between Buddhism and Christanity).

I hesitate to go on because words are inadequate. But why differeniate between enemy and chemical imbalance. With me, I know that I often just feel bad. I try to recognize that, and know that there are others that are feeling bad. We're in the same boat. And maybe some compassion can arise for all of us.

warm regards ~Jake
