Where did that come from? (Sex talk???)

I have prayed all my life to be able to understand God's purposes in that area, and at best all I have discovered is that if a person unleashes her/his sexuality in the wrong way it can be like a powder keg. Please allow me to explain.

Will and Ariel Durrant after a lifetime of observing history wrote: "A youth boiling with hormones will wonder why he (she) should not give full freedom to his (her) sexual desires, and if he (she) is unchecked by custom, morals, or laws, he (she) may ruin his (her) life before he (she) matures sufficiently to understand that sex is a river of fire that must be banked and cooled by a hundred restraints if it is not to consume in chaos both the individual and the group".

The Lord has made us attractive to each other for a great purpose. But this very attraction becomes a powder keg unless it is kept under control. It is beautiful when handled in the right way. It is deadly if it gets out of hand.

Those who indulge in sexual activity outside the bonds of marriage do irreparable damage to themselves and rob the one with whom they are involved of that which can never be restored. There is nothing clever about this kind of so-called conquest. It carries with it no laurels, no victories, no enduring satisfaction. It brings only shame, sorrow, regret, and often disease. Those who so indulge cheat themselves and rob another. In so doing, they affront their Father in Heaven, for they are children of God. I know that this is strong language, plainly spoken. But the trend of our times calls for strong language and plain words.
(Quoted from the book, "Way to Be" http://deseretbook.com/store/product-comments?product_id=100050199#customer_reviews

Me: I would venture to guess that 50% of the problems on these forums could have been prevented if everyone had been true to this principle (commandment). Does immorality cause depression, or does depression cause immorality?

Now, I realize the preceding only covers sexuality outside of marriage, but it affects it, in that generally a person cannot be true to their spouse for longer than about 5 years when they have been sexually active outside the marriage. Or it is much harder to, and you can find many ways of bending the rules to make it seem like you are being true, when in actuality you are making it more difficult for others, by saying or doing things that make them attracted to you.

And, what about Porn? How many billions is America spending on it? God cannot be pleased with that at all. If we really care about God's will or his way of doing things, sex is a hot topic, and one that is better cooled in public.

(I shouldn't have started) but people of my faith believe that America is a promised land, one where religious freedom is guaranteed, though not without struggle. And, being such, the promise is that as long as the inhabitants believe in god and keep his commandments they will be protected. But when they don't, boom. There is always a way to turn it around, and that is to keep the commandments. That is the whole message of the Book of Mormon, also to teach Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, and even if you don't believe it, I highly recommend a read. every word, the word of God, not many books can make that claim. In fact, it may be the only one. Even the Bible lays claim to interpretation error, or discrepencies between interpretations. I love the bible, don't get me wrong. Peter especially, I mean he knew the whole story.

Well, that's my sex talk girls, now yours? ? ...

Rayww... you know me better than that!

[Disclaimer: I'm about to go into my own, personal sex beliefs, which are a reflection upon no one, but myself...!]

I'm talking about Holy Sex... designed, I believe, by the inventor of it - God Himself.

Sex between one man and one woman, bound together as one flesh, in marriage.

No porn, no pre-marital sex, no extra-marital sex, nothing outside of the boundaries of Holy Sex...

But within those boundaries, it should be intimate, deep, committed, lavish, loving, uninhibited, ever-better, mysterious, magical, pleasurable, spiritual, playful, soul-melding, body-throbbing, mind-blowing and FUN!!!

THAT's what I would teach the other "church ladies"... most of whom (in my experience) have been taught that sex is a "necessary evil" for procreation only, mostly for men's pleasure, and that "good girls don't"... stick to the missionary possition and for heaven's sake don't crack a grin!

I'd teach them from the Song of Solomon, which is, I believe, God's view of sex (He insured that it was included in the Bible, after all), explicitness and all ... that God is pro-pleasure, pro-fun, and pro-sex!

I'd teach them that sex is so holy, so special, so incredible, that it requires high boundaries in order to be fully appreciated and enjoyed.

I'd teach them that I believe that God is RIGHT THERE, urging them on, encouraging them to surrender to their passion with each other, enabling them to rise to heights of ecstasy, joy and physical/emotional/spiritual oneness...

And God is smiling upon them as they do...

That's what I'd teach them.

And God would smile on me, as I do.

Shalom, Dena

Thanks, Spriggy!

Once God has zapped you, there's no shutting up!

Not even if you get kicked out of church over it! 'Nother story...!

I'm sorry to have hijacked your thread about your wonderful God-leading-you story! I copied your story and sent it to my husband, as an encouragement for him...

God leads us in circuituous routes... and it sometimes takes awhile before we get the cosmic "Aha!"... we're getting boatloads of them lately, explaining why it took so long for our house to sell (6 months, when the others were selling in a couple of days, or hours!)...

YOUR story was magnificent! I loved how the excitement kept building... getting "weirder and weirder"! I was gasping outloud (& I rarely even giggle at the comics...!).

Thanks so much for sharing, and I'm sorry for the detour ... it just made me all excited, and then CrazyTeresa mentioned sex ed, and well, there I went...!

Rayww is my friend, so I'll take the liberty to answer, in case she's not posting tonight, and I don't want your curiosity to go unsatisfied...

Rayww is a woman... her "name" stands for "Ray: Wonderful Woman." Which, I shall attest, is TRUE. She is a wonderful woman.

I add my own personal "w" to her name: Raywww, which stands for "Ray: WILD Wonderful Woman", which is also true, in a good way.

I'll let her now speak for herself about whether or not she felt upset by your comment.

I didn't (duh!). I understood what you meant, and I echoed that, with my post. As a recently enlightened and awakened married woman (re. sexuality), I, too relish how wonderfully lavish our God was when He blessed us with His amazing gift of sex.

(pardon me, while I commence to go "off" a bit, directed at no one in particular...)

Should it be guarded with boundaries? Absolutely!

But it should also be relished with abandon within those boundaries.

The historic Church has repressed sexuality for centuries - and the people in that Church have suffered for it. Marriages have suffered for it. To the point that many people believe that God is anti-sex. Nothing could be further from the truth - He is pro-sex - it's His gift to us.

The Church has been too silent on sex for too long, saying only, "Don't do it", as if it were somehow shameful to mention.

We have to speak out, so that those who believe lies about it can be set free. The truth about how God sees sex needs to be declared, to the Church, as well as anyone else who wonders about it.

The silence is what drives people to pornography, and to harmful sexual relationships.

If people know how good sex can be, done God's way, they wouldn't settle for anything less.

How will they know, if we don't tell them? Starting with our own children!

I want my kids to know WHY we want them to be pure... so that they can relish the pleasure FULLY, after they're One in marriage.

Shalom, Dena

Heck no, i wasn't upset. I agree with all said thus far, BUT: I just feel in my own personal case that if I had always been 100% true to my beliefs I wouldn't have had to deal with the powder keg of emotions since. That may or may not be true, but I think it is. I have been tempted and tried as much as is humanly possible to be tempted, and not fall. Catch that? And NOT fall. I have been true to my beliefs since marriage, but it hasn't been easy. I think it would have been easier had I not slipped up a bit before. Anyway, I'm getting in deeper than I had planned, but who plans anything once the typing starts? It's for sure I don't.

I have some serious regrets that I wouldn't have if I had not made mistakes. I know many people who have not made those mistakes, (my kids) and their lives seem different than mine. I want to be 100% pure, from the inside out. And through complete repentance and the atonement of Christ, it is possible, and probable. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=luke%206:46-49&version=9

Dena, hold back just a little could you??? The compliments I mean:)

I know what you mean rayww. But in my case, I think I learned from my HORRIBLE teenage years why it is so important to be faithful to my husband. I can reflect back on how miserable I felt then when I'm seriously tempted now (and not just by sex.) I ALWAYS have to learn the hard way...

Someday the big hand in the sky may just come right down and give me a big flick with His pointer finger, come on--how could He not want to? ;~}

I think this is why I was so drawn to the high school youth. They really want the truth, whether it's what they want to hear or not. Plus they're soooo much fun!

But, how else are they going to know unless they are taught??? And, pardon me, but I can't see any way to rephrase something as basic and plain as that statement. Hello. It's true. Maybe it was put too plainly? Could someone please help me out here? I will accept suggestions.

Rather than rephrase it, I will just leave it out. OK, consider it left out. Eliminated.

I respect that this is centered in your faith. But I just need to tell you that my husband and I had premarital sex for several years before we got married. It's part of the overall intimacy we shared that allowed us to know for sure that we belong together and were committed to being together.

I just can't see any harm that came to either one of us from that.
>
> But, how else are they going to know unless they are taught??? And, pardon me, but I can't see any way to rephrase something as basic and plain as that statement. Hello. It's true.

Again, I respect that it is your truth, but my own truth is very different. And I felt a bit of a sting when I read that maybe I just need to be "taught" that my truth is wrong. I'm not sure if that is what you are saying here, but that's how I read it.

>>Maybe it was put too plainly? Could someone please help me out here? I will accept suggestions.

I think it's okay for you to say what you believe, but perhaps there needs to be explicit acknowledgement that others may believe differently? I don't know. It's part of why I don't post much on this board.

Take care,

crap it wasn't meant to be judgemental at all. I don't judge anyone, honest, but I'm not opposed to stating beliefs that I consider truth. I mean no matter how you look at it, sex can = babies, unless of course you are gay and then it might = disease. God wants ALL people to live for their alloted time, and be happy and healthy, or loved and cared for. And that's another truth.

When I read that other quote the first time it pinched me too, but it was a good pinch. I mean there's nothing like repentance. God is so kind. He accepts us just the way we are and helps us turn around. My life is a testament to that. I don't know - maybe I'm getting myself in deeper here - but I think it is a faith topic worthy of discussion. Thank-you for discussing, and hey, there's nothing wrong with visiting the faith board :)

These beliefs are unpopular, but they have been since the beginning of time. Can you see why? I'm guessing Sex is one of the main reasons people turned their backs on God. Fron my own experience, when I have had an attraction, I could not pray. I would kneel down and start, but by the time I got finished my mind would be on the person, like I was praying to him instead of God, also like he had taken God's place as my personal savior. I'm glad that part of my life is over. 10 years, 20, who knows, but once I got into it, it just kept getting worse, like an addiction. If I had acted on any of it, think of the families I might have affected, my own first. I considered it a huge problem of the mind. I have turned it around, but not without scars. I have no idea why I am *confessing* this all over this forum, other than if my experience can help someone else, then it's worth it. Why else do we experience what we do if not to help others avoid our mistakes?
