Use of medication isn't contrary to my faith....

Posted by NotAddicted on April 7, 2004, at 14:58:41

Is this a common thought or just mine?

My faith and trust in my God is ultimately the most important factor in my life and functioning. When I state my medication is a Godsend, I mean it literally. I believe my God cares for me though various interventions and blessings.

Thank you for that. For some reason, I guess I just needed to see if others really did feel that way. The post above this began on another board and I was involved with that... what I'm discussing here is just related to the thoughts by some of faith that meds are just a "bandaid" (note: that is my preception of the post). I have a problem when emotional and mental illnesses are looked at differently from other health problems. Some of faith would never suggest not using medications for heart issues or diabetes or..... but imply use of psych meds is "different".
My God works in wonderous ways for me.

>meds are just a "bandaid"<

what's wrong with bandaids? bandaids are nice to have around when you need one.

>I have a problem when emotional and mental illnesses are looked at differently from other health problems.<

i don't look at them as being different. i take Lotensin everyday for my high BP, and Effexor XR everyday for my moods. both make me feel better. i don't see any reason to construct a false wall between them.

~~~Nothing wrong with bandaids at all, it just wasn't the way I looked at my med use and I was told by some that was all using meds did just cover up problems.
~~~Very nice to hear that. I do think most feel that way.... it's a small group that feels different. Everyone has the right to freewill of thought, I just don't find the "it's just covering problems" mentality very helpful, constructive, or truthful when coming from people of faith.... or anybody really.

Sorry to interrupt, but I'd like to redirect follow-ups regarding medication to the main Psycho-Babble board. Here's a link:
