white-out

Posted by rayww on November 28, 2002, at 9:27:50

a sudden white-out causes a plane to crash into the side of a mountain. an arctic flyer says when everything is blanketed with snow he cannot tell the difference between mountain, land, ocean, sky.

sometimes we live life in a white-out attitude. Just because things are glossed over does not make them safe or right.

God's world is the real one. Satan's is the white-out. Some would say it is the other way around.

Confusion happens when you can't see the counterfeits. Take the dollar bill (no looney). looks like, feels like, spends like, but is not.

think about the counterfeits to marriage and morality, family, honesty, integrity, faith, divine nature, good works, choice and accountability, individual worth, knowledge.

It's the same with the gospel and ordinances: baptism, sacrament, all the commandments.

Satan wants us to live in a white out world, having no fear, or doing whatever one wants without fear or understanding of consequenses. He denies his own existance, and also denies the existance of his God.

There are only two ways to worship. true or false. real or counterfeit. both can be found in nearly every religion. take mine for instance. a person flys through a white-out and crashes into a mountain.

grieving today.

Yes bold statements, but don't ignore the fact/opinion/idea that there is real and counterfeit in every religion.

9-11 Islam belief
Catholic Priest scandal
our own back yard and house

lets not point fingers, but acknowledge that every religion has its own problems, the reason for which religion exists in the first place - meaning to make bad men good and good men better.
Or - - to seek divine acceptance for today and a brighter future for tomorrow. Religion is supposed to elevate not to oppress, illuminate not smother, enlighten not stifle, and in so doing, open the conduit back to the presence of God. That's my take.

Hi oracle-

Could you please restate your message? Religion is a topic many people feel strongly about, so special care in communication is needed to avoid misunderstandings and/or hurt feelings.

Thanks---medlib (substituting for Dr. Bob)

Sorry. God's world is the counterfeit one then. When I think/write/speak/act, God is a given. I have never not believed in God, so why would I write as though He does not exist? Hopefully there is no offense in the spill.

The problem on the faith in god board, is that when religion is mentioned people might think that no religion is a religion.

What is your definition of religion?
Now what is the definition of religion?
Is there a difference?

http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary suggests the word religion may take origin with the word, "religare" to restrain, tie back

The New Testament http://scriptures.lds.org/james/1/27#27 says religion is not a noun, but a verb.

This is the statement that I have a problem with.
How can anyone make such a statement about every religion. This is an absolute statement, made by a person on just on faith, covering all faiths.

It does not cover my faith, it is an insult in my faith to make such an ego driven statement. How can someone of one faith decide that for every faith there are only wrong and right ways to worship.

No one has the right to judge my choice of worship, let alone tell me that there is a "good" or "bad".

There are many paths to Budda, any (many) can be valid for a specific person.

As a seperate issue, I feel the post was about an inch away from saying "There is only one path and it is mine" It is not a far step from stating
there are 2 paths to 1 path.

This post shows no respect for the myrid religions that do not have such rigid ideologies

If said with respect, differing views never offend. Making absouute points (there are only 2 ways to worship) does not indicate respect for others views.

It is totally different to say "In my religion
their are just 2 ways to worship".

I wrote to cyberspace, you have written to me. Did I make all of cyberspace feel bad? Your post was directed at me and it bothered me a lot. I like to write to topics and ideas. So, if my idea offends your idea, let's discuss ideas here on the faith board, and try to keep away from personal offense. Otherwise we may as well be playing football.

oracle, you take offense to my suggestion that there is a right and wrong way to worship in every religion. Are you saying it is all right to pray to Budah while you stab your brother in the back? Or that it is all right to bow with your mind full of thoughts of abuse?

Do your religious rituals and ordinances mean something or nothing to you? If they mean nothing, you are a counterfeit Budhist. If they mean something you are a true Budhist or Catholic, or Protestant, or whatever.

We don't have to be living exactly as the religion teaches in order to be a true member. In my opinion, we just need to be trying to do our best, and moving in the right direction. After all, religion is there for a guide and a light. Take care

ray, I am going to have to leave the faith borad for a while, I am very upset over my weekend:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/social/20021120/msgs/32953.html

I don't want to pull my anger over my personal events into this discussion. I really do want to continue, I find I agree with you on many points.
And where we disagree I would like to hear what your views are, not to attack, but to understand.
My taking a break has nothing to do with you or what you said (I enjoy your posts) but more the very charged subject (religion).

Take care, and I hope to pick this thread up in a week or so.

Thank you for this insightful reply, oracle; it's very helpful. I hope that the problems in your local justice? system can be resolved without too much more stress to you.

Take care, medlib
