Robin David John,
I read your post, but I am not a golfer so I really can't give you an answer as to the moral.
Perhaps if yo redirect it to the social board, and ask it to the open board, someone, who is a golfer, could answer it.
Thanks for asking me,
Lou

Lou the idea here is to see where your spirital counselling is at ..I was really hoping that you could give me some more evidence of where your coming from . If I were to discuss anything tnat I spiritually have been guided to at present with you, you would have to prove to me that we are on the same path, you see if you can see the spirituality in this little parable and tell me what it says to you then maybe there could be some way that I would believe some of the things that you have been said in your above posts. It's simple ..Forget the golf part , look at the parable here..I would really like to see if you can relay what this parable is saying . That is what this is all about Lou its a parable, IT IS not a joke.

Hi Robin,

I realize I'm not Lou, but I read your joke and didn't actually see a moral in it. Am I missing something? Maybe you could explain it to me. I'm notoriously bad at jokes. I mean I saw the references to biblical themes, and I'm sure who the old man was (took me a minute though, see I'm lousy at jokes). I know that analyzing jokes is a sure way to ruin them though, so if you'd prefer not to answer so that others can enjoy it, that's fine.

Dinah

Psst... By the way, one of the rules of the site is that you not pressure others. Lou has already declined to answer the question, and very politely too. I'm not sure if that rule is actually in the FAQ section of the site, but Dr. Bob has enforced it before. Just a friendly heads up.

Hi Dinah ..Nice to here from you, hope things are going well for you (-: ..I would really like Lou to answer this so I can see if we see eye to eye on spirituality..I'm emotionally doing fabulous and my spirit has picked right up. I am listening to a spitual radio station , something like WDCX at work all day and the music and the teachers are starting to lift me up again ..How have you been ? And I will tell you (From the sword)what the parable is all about. I believe that our pathway is the same ..narrow..I heard this joke / parable and thought that I would use it to test others who say they are ..well you know like eary Christians outlining the fish with there foot to recognize one another.

Hi Robin,

Well, I would never have guessed that meaning. I'm glad you weren't testing me. I've never really believed in the narrow path anyway. Well, at any rate, my belief is that there are many narrow paths that all end up in the same place. So I guess I would have flunked anyway. :)

Would you mind explaining it to my dense mind though? The joke refers to Moses parting the waters, Jesus walking on the waters. OK those are straight biblical images. God commands the eagle to drop the frog with an "Old" Testament command, and wins the round, and the fact that the old man is God is clarified by Jesus calling him father. Again, a fairly standard biblical image. How does that point to a narrow path parable? I apologize for my denseness. I kill many a joke by not quite understanding. And if you'd rather not blow it, again, I understand completely.

Dinah

PS. Perhaps you should add to future jokes "Definitely not for Dinah". :)

And if anyone is wondering, this is why I usually don't participate on joke threads (or poetry threads either).

Hi Dinah ...Yes there are many paths , as a matter of fact everyone of us has his own path ..aha! but they do not lead to the same place at the end after the book of life is closed. You see I believe that on every path we come acoss decisions that have to be made ,( free will )And these decisions can be made by influence ,listening to or watching someone else. Thus having a Faith Babble can attract a lot of influences , and I enjoy reading most of what is posted and then compute what is good for me spiritually and what is not is deleted . Forgive me, I pass judgement on everything That I see and here ,so there for I must have some comfort with who I communicate with and who I don't. I dont have room for some fictionalized therory , I want the truth , facts and the way to make my life easier. You see being open minded and having a spiritual path that I would like to say I follow carefully , I Would like Lou to answer this question, for if he answers it correctly , I then have other questions I would like to ask him.

First, Dinah already asked you not to pressure anyone (which is in fact in the FAQ:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil

so now I'm going to block you from posting for another week. Second, please be careful using words like "correctly" on this particular board.

Bob

Lou I would like to apoligize for the joke / parable pressure thing ...The out come of the golf shot was the shot was predestined for the cup. My faith teaches us that life is predestined. It does not matter what I do in my life things are going to happen And I cant change that ..No matter what I do, hear, or say. Is this something you believe..Like it says on the American dollar in God we Trust.

RDJ,
That would be a good topic to discuss, sometime.
Glad to see that you have returned.
