apathetic agnostics/conversational christians...

that subject line is just meant to be a light non-offensive joke...

Apathetic Agnostic? Moi? This is why I was looking forward to this board, but, unfortunately, am trying to refrain from posting.

So, now I must look at myself, and if a catgeory or post causes my blood-pressure to rise, I step back and consider why.

This category doesn't at all, Fi, but I don't think I'm "apathetic" unless I'm depressed. But that may be what you were referring to.

Agnostic - yes, that's still me. And has been for many years.

I wouldn't want to be apathetic, but then I spend So Much Time thinking about spirituality/religion/history related to religion/philosophy, maybe it would be better if I were apathetic. What on earth will I create with all these thoughts and research?

Ooo, maybe my own philosophy one day?

Lou actually ended up helping me. I finally asked myself why his posts bothered me So Much. And the main thing was unresolved issues from my childhood religion. If I had not been raised born-again, his posts would still have concerned me, but not Offended me.

A big vacuum in your head, where everything you used to remember gets sucked out your ears, and you lose your keys and sunglasses. Then you'll be ready to join my club.

We already have our own philosophies. Don't we? We just haven't published them yet.

There you go. Good for you to admit. We miss you on the board, so I hope you post more.

thought processes working a little better...

breathing more regularly.

allowing myself to sleep until 10:00 am without guilt (or at least shame), though husband certainly disagrees with that one.

But I think it's helping me cognitively.

I Will write something today. And take out the trash. Perhaps I'll even do the dishes.

One thing that did bother me about that book was little suggestions such as keeping the house free of clutter/cleaniness, etc. This is something I grew up with, and, trust me, I love an immaculate house. But I love it because that's something I am drawn to, in the same way some people love minimalist design and others love country.

My husband and his grandmother are very clutter-oriented and Gram's idea of cleaniness is rinsing off the fork used to dig the hole for the plant outside before using it on your steak.

I can't Imagine that God would give one hoot about a clutter-free home. Who cares? As long as things are safe and healthful, i.e. bugs and mice aren't everywhere, then that's just fine.

Again, this comes from being told that my "dirty" room displeased God. It also played very nicely into my OCD - I would fold clothes 20 times because I didn't think they were "perfect" enough for God.

We all just got ta live a little, relax a little...

. . .well, I woudn't go *quite* that far. Lou's thinking - and I use the term loosely - if you really look into it, wade into a few of those posts about Kid_A, for example, were more like looking into the Dark and Disturbed, where the ability to love one's fellow man has long since fled. And I think, fascinating though that may be, we have to distinguish between work in the self and the outer reality, which is that minds like that are not a pretty sight. Where so much what we value in being human is. ..absent.

I trust the human sense. I mean, I trust that if a lot of good people are made uneasy by someone. . .there is a *reason.* And it doesn't *do* to just say, Adjust. Or, Be charitable. Be nice. It doesn't mean disrespecting Lou, either - but it does mean - and I think this is a difficult form of compassion - trying to see reality as it is, and charting one's course by that. If someone, for example, is a ill with paranoid schizophrenia, it is a disservice to pretend they have all their ducks in a row. . . People are so reluctant to play God when the situation *begs* for someone to, for a moment, adopt the role - in the sense of some shepherding kindness. A kind father. That's often what's needed - a kind and wise sort of fathering. A quality that seems to be disappearing from the landscape. . .making us all feel a little more lost. .

But I digress.

Please don't post anything that others could take as accusatory or put them down. Remember, one of the goals of this site is to offer support.

It may be best to avoid "difficult" forms of compassion here. Being kind and wise sounds fine, however...

I'm sorry to have been confusing- I should have known better than to get into joking on this, particularly without explaining properly.

I was just picking up on your comments on joining 'revolutionary agnostics'. I'm agnostic, but not at all actively one (tho I realise I dont know what a revolutionary one would do!)So calling myself an apathetic one...

Sorry for delay in responding to your post here, too- in the light of what I've said above, it may not be a surprise that this is actually the first time I have visited this board...)
