Ordered a few books

Posted by ClearSkies on October 13, 2006, at 21:46:04

"After the Flood" a photography book that captures the multiple images of the areas wravaged by last year's Katrina. (I think it's a big, coffeetable book. I hope it is.)

"State of Denial" by Bob Woodward. Because I can understand his writing.

Other than these iminent arrivals, I have been sustaining myself with the daily comics in the newspapers, the Buddhist quarterly magazine that I can barely understand, the Vanity Fair, worthy of putting up with all their ads to read their editorial articles and interviews. Bob Appetit magazine for wishing and hoping and a couple of the "easy" "quick" "healthy" menus if it reads easily, and on one page.

i just returned from the library where i checked out far too many books! that means too much sofa time. but i can't resist reading. i read all of the John Sanford mysteries as fast as i could. stayed up three nights til three to find out who the killer was. :-)

i then switched to these hilarious books about Blanco, Texas so that i could have some good belly laughs.

don't know how the bagful that i got today will turn out but i'm going to the sofa now and will stay there for hours and hours......it is Saturday and you are supposed to take a break, right?

Book are my most favoured form of self medication. And, like potato chips, once I start, I'm in that book bag for a long time.

and when I do.. its not healthy reading as a rule *l*

But. I have just finished "Margrave of the Marshes".. Its John Peels autobiography (though, h e died half way through writing so its also written by his wife)

He was a British rdio DJ.. probably THE BEST british radio DJ ever. He was well known for giving many bands and singers their start in this country and was an all round awesome guy. He lived in the area I grew up, and in our late teens / early twenties, we often had "John Peel Hunts" round the pubs of his local ara incase we ever found him.
We did once.. but were too scared to go talk to him *laughing*

I finished the book yesterdy.. 2 years to the day since he died, which seemed kind of right. Each year, on the thursday before the anniversary of his death, when his last broadcast had gone out, John Peel day is held.. Gigs and music events all round the country was held.
He was *really* loved..

I ejoyed it.. and I cried.. He was one of the good 'uns..

N xx

:( indeed.

The outpouring of love and grief here was amazing.. You know how us Brits aren't overly keen on showing our emotions, but the country really did him proud.

He was on holiday in Peru, with the pig, when he suffered a heart attack.. :(

This is real self-medication, as far as I'm concerned. Talk about taking me away! Books offer more than any Calgon bath ever could. An alternative reality without the wrinkled toesies...
