Chlorophyll may be part of it as it contains Magnesium as the central ion. But even more magnesium is found in other plant enzymes and tissues. So Green leafy plants tend to be high in Magnesium. I was thinking of writing a post on several research studies Ive been reading which gave Magnesium supplements to patients with Depression with very good results (certain forms seem better than others).

Green leafy vegetables are also rich in other minerals, Vitamins and various other bioactive compounds, flavanols and other antioxidants (anti-inflammatory). Theyre also high in fiber and other compounds that may enhance healthy gut microbiome.

A 2018 prospective study published in the journal Neurology found that consuming approximately 1 serving per day of green leafy vegetables was associated with slower cognitive decline with aging.
